I am in the methodone program (again) and I think it is totally discrimatory that they make all the patients have a locked box to bring home their take homes. I understand the safety thing about it, but why do only methodone patients need to carry a locked box and not other people who pick up their prescription meds (sometimes more dangerous than meth.) from the pharmacy????? This is only another way to discriminate against methodone users and make us, and the rest of society, feel that we are stupid, irresponsible people who can't handle taking proper care of their meds. No wonder people feel that methodone users are just a bunch of pathetic junkies who don't care about anything: if the people claiming to help us get our lives back together don't believe in us, why should anybody else? Thanx for letting me vent. peace, s.k. |

Susie I totally agree with you. My program doesn't make us do that, but I believe you are right about the dicrimination and the disrespect of treating you like a child. It defininely does not help your self esteem being treated that way.Sorry your program treats you like that but that is part of the ball and chain of methadone.Geo_46 |

Suzie,
I have said many times to people, " Why the hell cant
people go to the pharmacy and just get a prescription for methadone? I
just can not understand the concept. To have a special place where money
is the only incentive and the addict has to feel singled out is
bullshit.
I think is the system for methadone was changed more
addicts would give it a chance instead of losing there lives from the
shame., Love Karen

Hi,im a newbie here and id just wanna say "hello all",Im on the methadone program in austrailia &we have a different set of hoops to jump through. The locked box thing is way over the top.Ive been on this shit 4 7yrs now and Ive fought everyone in the clinic about trusted patients should get up to 4 or 5 take-away doses. We are expected and do jump through THEIR hoops. How are we expected to hold down a job if we have to collect our Mdone each day.My husband is also on the program & we have never ever fucked up.We dont smoke pot or use ,we dont drink alcohol, so why dont they give us a trial period &see how it pans out.The last thing we feel like doing when we're reducing is getting all four of our kids in the car and dosing. When I first started there at the chemist ,the pharmists said not to bring our children in his shop.(FUCKED UP!) Ive always paid on time and in advace, thats $40 in his pocket a week. Also he serves all his other customers before he doses us.He should be licking my feet that little yellow prick. He"s a slant eyed named Roger,is'nt that funny hey?.Roger is 4ft tall & he sucks cock. Thanks 4 listening,Igot a bit off the track there & I hope noone is offended. Soro grrr |

If by "he's a slant-eyed" you mean he's Asian, yeah, I am very fucking offended; go take you ignorant racist point of view to some other board. Sorry if I'VE offended anyone, but I STRONGLY feel there's no place for racism of any kind at HOH. Marco |

Marco,
I agree with you 100% it is bad enough that as recovering addicts we have to
endure all kinds of discrimination from so-called main stream america so we
don't need a self serving ignorant arse bringing disruption to our
group.

I will add my agreement to the rest. I too am offended. Racism, bigotry and prejudices should not be a part of our family on HOH. I have to deal with it day in and out regarding my sons addiction in my world, I don't want to have to deal with it here. |

Hi Karen I am not sure how things work where you live but i live in England and over here the doctors give out presriptions for methadone and its collected from the cemist. my nearly partner Paul is due to start on methadone in a couple of weeks Note i say nearly partner due to the fact that i will not live with him untill he is clean and getting help and treatment as he also has hep c.I want nothing more than to have him clean of heroin and getting treatment for hep as i love him like crazy we have both waited a lot of years to be together as we were both married but i am going through a divorce and paul has been divorced for almost 5 years Paul was married to my ex husbands sister so it makes him my ex brother in law its all a bit mad but we are getting there just taking each day as it comes, I do understand about what your saying when it comes to been singled out but we are lucky over here in the uk as we do not have to pay for hospital or any other health treatment we get it free on the N.H.S the Nation Health Service. When you have a sec drop me a line and let me know how you get your methadone i am courios. Take care your freind Rosie |

Hi Rosie,
You must have me mistaken for someone else. Its ok
though, with you being new.
I have not taken methadone, although i think it is a life
saving medicine.
I am just a women who wandered into h of h one day because
i lost my son to a heroin overdose and i had 6 million questions like you
do.
I have dealt with alot of issues since joining here.
For one right now i have severe pain in my back and if it
wasnt for this site and friends i have made i would definetly be taking oxycotin
for it and i know i would get addicted.
Here in the us our methadone system from what i learned is
barbarrick. Thank god there are methadone advocates like claude who have
so much compassion and help when someone has a real problem.
When my son was suffering with his addiction he did
recieve help from the state.
I wish you well with Paul, but rosie, he has a
longggggggggggggggggg road ahead of him.
Please Please dont forget something that i didnt
know. Relapse is a part of recovery.
Please write me anytime you want, i know the road will be
bumpy, and please take care of yourself first.
Much love Karen |

Barbaric isn't even the half of it Karen! The last time I was in detox, I was told that I wasn't a good candidate for rehab because I'd been in 5 of them; so I tried to get on the methadone clinic. They told me I had to come to the clinic in 2 weeks and give them 3 positive urines and then they would start dosing me. I asked them what the hell was the point of doing my intake from a detox if they just wanted me to get clean for 6 days and then go out and use for a few more weeks? They had no good response to that and I decided that since I'd already been in the detox, I would just say screw it. I ended up going to rehab after all and I have never been on the clinic, but it's ridiculous here on Long Island. You have to go down there every day to get your dose...it's just retarded.
