Hi everyone. I have just joined the group, and am also new again to the world of horses after a 25 year break.  We were fortunate to get an acerage near Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada this summer and I am loving it!

Best way to learn sometimes is baptism by fire, and that seems to be my way as I have two horses right now, along with my 4 dogs and 2 cats --- yikes! Love to hear your adventures and share mine.

Leigh

Thanks for the nice welcome. Hope you all had a Christmas just like you wished for.

As for the horses, well first we bought Gypsy. She is a 14 hh dun Palimino. I was so excited to get her, and they told me she was a bit "antsy" as she hadnt' been ridden in a long time and would be much more settled in when I rode her lots. Well, big mistake; she is a bit too nervous for me. I over react, and gets her too nervous - big problems. So after a nasty spill at the beginning of Nov I have decided to follow horsey friends advice and sell her. I really should have a very beginner's horse.

Then after we had Gypsy a month or so we figured we should have some sort of animal for a companion. We were talking to a guy down the road who has a petting zoo and he said "here is the best animal as a companion" Llama, donkey, ???? - no, he had a yearling that was too big for the zoo anymore. So, he pretty much gave her to us; she was so scared at first; would jump at any noise and had me really on my toes but she has really fit in nice. No more scardy cat, and her personallity couldnt' be sweeter. Everyone loves Maggie, and I am really looking working with her. I will have her go to a trainer when the time comes.

For Christmas we suprised the grandchildren with a mini. He really is tiny, and also from the same petting zoo; the personallity is so gentle and kind. He is a mess, his mane was like dreadlocks under the first bit you see, his coat was full of old oats and stuff, and rubbed off in places something fierce. We have him "in quarentine" and will de-louse him good, but I don't know if thats the problem or just dirty and over crowding before. We had a lot of fun with him the last couple of days. I wanted him so that Maggie would have a friend when I sell Gypsy, or just not panic when she is being ridden.  This having companions is a bit of a pain!

So thats the horsey side of the family. Three horses and nothing to ride, I am very sad.  Will advertise Gypsy again in the new year and hope I can get something more suited to this old granny!
