Hi Everyone,
I will give you a bit of a rundown on how the Meditation series will go...FIRST and foremost, know that your times schedule will be decided by YOU.  so anyone working should be able to work this in after or before you go to work.  so do not worry about missing out...
I will post a new Meditation approximately once a week, but will be answering you daily.

Valira Mists and I will be posting things that will help you and when you have any questions, we will be right here to answer.

When I post a meditation, I will ask that you do it as soon as you can...it is optimal to record the meditation and then play it back as you completely focus.  For those of you that do not have a tape recorder, you may have a good experience by having your journal at the computer and writing down your thoughts as soon as you read the post at the board .  You can also copy it off and read it as you sit at your meditation area or have someone else read it to you, altho, the last idea , may be too distracting for you to begin with.

I would like you to come to the board and post as soon as you write in your journal as your experience will be fresh in your mind and it is best written about at this time.  Also, be sure to post any questions you may have as well.

Thanks for being here and I look forward to hearing from each of you soon.  Tomorrow , I will post your first exercise...so until then

Blessed Be
Lady Majyk Myst

Greetings Everyone,

Welcome to Meditative Ways!!

I am so happy to see you all here and ready to delve into the world of Meditation!  In the next days and weeks, we will be studying a wonderful tool of our art.  Meditation is very imprtant to our path as it helps develop our skills of concentration, our focus and our visualization which is so important , not only to calm our daily lives , but for our ritual work as well.  I hope you will stay with this as you will learn so much about yourself as we delved deeper with each session.

I will be asking you to each post your experiences of each meditation as well as any comments and questions you will have.  This is important to the class to have your feedback and it will help you to examine your progress as well.

There are a few things I would ask you to do before we begin.  You will need to gather a few things that we will be using regularly so take today to get them rounded up...ok?  You will Need:
  • A notebook or Journal with a pen or pencil
  • A Tape Recorder and tapes
  • A regular time slot that you can meditate daily..whether this be morning, during the day, or evening...this is your choice.  But set about 30 to 45 minites aside that you can have for nothing else.
  • A Meditation Area...some suggestions will be explained in a seperated post.
  • Kleenexes
  • Optional: Candles , Incense, background natural sounds music...(no voices).

As time goes on, I may ask that you have other things , but for now, this is all you need.  So Go get prepared and I will be starting the next step tomorrow as we start our journey to Medtiative Ways.

I now have your names recorded on my roster and will be checking the responses with this list so know that each lesson will be depending on the rollcall response.  Your comments and questions are very important with each lesson so I know that you have done it and are ready to move forward.  I hope to gie you an average of three days to a week depending on the workings involved so post often and we will all get the most we can out of this wonderful series.  With that I will post the first instruction and excercise tomorrow.  See you then...

Brightest Blessings

Ok...

 and don't be nervous!!...

There are a few things that you need to know before we do the first meditation...

1.  Get out your Meditation Journal or a notebook to write in...You could even treat yourself and buy a new "special" pen that you use just for this.

2.  Turn off any distracting things like radio, tv, phones, and if the family pet needs to go out...make sure that is done before you set down for your meditation.

3.  Do you know how to breathe to relax?...Here is a mini lesson...

Blow your nose...(hehee...I am serious,  you need a clear nose for this...)  it also may help to take a breath of vicks or a caugh drop if you are "stuffy"..(don't think I am wierd...that is just so that you can breathe deep)

Now, take a deeee-eeep breath through your nose and hold it to the count of four..1...2....3....4...

now, blow out slowly through your mouth as if you are blowing on soup to cool it...

This is something you will do before each meditation... so learn to relax those muscles...

You will do some deep breathing before every meditation so this is very important and will soon become a natural signal to your body to center.

          Are you ready?.......

now... for your meditation...

I will post this meditation next so look for "Meditation  # 1"

and receive a Blessing...

Hi Everyone,

Many times when you run on to a blank area in your meditation. , know that you are controling your focus.  and that is good...you have successfully mastered the focus.  Your mind is focused on your intent!  Great!!

When we look at wanting to see different parts of ourselves as in Meditation #2 and the area is blank...we are in process of transisision and not ready to look at past or future...do not worry about that.  Your inner being knows what is best for your progress so just go with what you are seeing and accept it as what is needed right now...if it is empty...look deeper and see what is in the room...this also can be important.  It does not have to be a person..it can be a "feeling" you percieve as you enter...focus on the feeling...is it peaceful...is it apprehensive...are you scared...or curious...?  you HAVE been successful in this meditation so do not think it is wrong...it is right for you..each of us percieves something special...we just have to see what it is.  I am going to ask each of you to focus on feelings this time as you experience this meditation...I will wait a bit longer before posting # 3 ...let's hear what you are feeling...ok?...and if you have any questions...ask them and we will be here to help!

Good Luck.

 Meditation # 1 ... "The Autumn House"

 Take a deeee-eeee--eeep Breath in....
hold to the count of four...

Breathe out...1...2...3...4...

Repeat this four times

As you continue to breath in deep slow breaths, you feel your body relas and count  to ten...
         ONE...your feet relax
         TWO...you feel your legs relax
         THREE...your thighs are completly relaxed
FOUR... your hips feel totally relaxed
FIVE... your tummy is no longer knotted and relaxes
SIX...Your mind moves to your heart and it slows and calms.
SEVEN...You feel the breath in your neck and it relaxes.
EIGHT... your jaw is no longer tight and it relaxes as you think of it.
NINE...your eyes close and totaly relax.
TEN...your third EYE opens and you feel completely relaxed and no longer feel your body.

Continue to breathe ...

As you close your eyes you see the perfect Autumn House.  It is planted in a stone-edged field near the woods.  You can smell the wood smoke coming from a bonfire as you walk up the cobbled drive, your basket you carry is filled with apples from the tangled orchard accross the lane.

You enter and look around.  Indoors you can still hear the insistant song of the stream, always on its way to somewhere, that murmers nearby.  You look out through the wide windows ablaze with trees.  In the field, a flock of geese rest near a deep, still pond.

The Autumn House glows with thankfulness and a sense of deep security.  The harvest is in, the larder is filled to bursting with food, and the reminders of the Earth Mother's bounty are everywhere:  the Autumn kitchen has bittersweet branches and swags of grapevine crowning the cabinets, earthen pitchers bursting with dried weeds in all their fragile and fascinating varity, butterscotch chrysanthemums and wild asters blooming in salt-glazed pots.  Pumplins squat, heavy-bellied, on fans of brilliant leaves grace the side table.  Great wooden bowls overflow with autumn squash, and baskets of acornsand nuts load the big wooden table; apples, grapes, and pears spill from cornucopias; native corn, in a magical bunch of three, casts its autumn blessing over the open hearth.

The hearth fire burns with a gentle golden warmth, and you sit beside it for a moment to warm your hands and to gaze into the embers.  What magickal pictures wait for you there?  Look deep and see...you see the message and tuck them firmly in your mind to write about .  Take a moment to take in the magick and listen...

(take a moment to listen)

As you take in all that you have seen you turn once again to the window...  The evening sky is telling you it is eventide.

What soothing, nurishing meals will you create from the harvest that surrounds you?  When sunset comes, its colors splendid as the leaves' bright flame,  you light amber beeswax candles to invite the sacred fire inside.  This is your time as you look at the flame,  you feel yourself returning to the time you started ...the room is coming back and you start counting back from ten...
nine...
eight...seven...
with each nuber you feel more refreshed as you return from the autumn House...
Six...
five...
four...
three...your eyes begin to open...
two...
one...you are fully refreshed and ready to record your magickal experience.

Meditation # 2 -

"The Meeting"

With your journal & pen in front of you and you are in your relaxing sacred space,  you begin...

Take a deep breath and count down as in your previous meditation and know that this is signaling your body to begin to relax and prepare to meditate.  Keep taking deep breaths in your nose and gently blowing out your mouth in a controled motion of blowing on an imaginary candle flame...do this until you feel you are focused and ready to begin your meditative journey.

You now find yourself on a familiar path.  The sun is shining down on you.  You can hear the birds flying above.  a gentle breeze blows by.You ae comfortable and relaxed.  It is not difficult to walk this path.  You enjoy the feeling of your feet connecting to the ground with each step.  A familiar scent on the winds, the warming sun, the movement of life--all is right with the world.

Far down the path you see a house.  The road leads toward it.  You feel drawn to the house.  Something within you hears a call from this dwelling, and you can't help but respond.  You feel your feet pick up their pace, moving faster toward the house until you reach the front of the building.  As you gaze at it, you realize that the building is very familiar to you.  Stop for a moment and take a look at this house.  Take a look at the doors and window, corners, roof, every part of this house.  Stch it into your mind.

As you stand in front of the house, the door before you opens...your curiosity is sparked...you make your way to the threshold and step over.  Slowly you start looking around the inside of the house.  It is filled with losts of unusual and interesting things, most of which, you realize, are familiar to you.  Some of the objects and pieces of furniture that fill the house you remember from your youth, others from more recent times.

As you wander around you nitice a number of doors.  You realize that no two doors are alike.  One door , in particular captures your attention.  You feel yourself drawn to the door and the mystery of what lies behind it.

You reach your hand forward and knock on the door.  Ir opens and a familiar person greets you.  You suddenly realize that this person is ...you...but only a portion of you.  It is one of your many aspects...one of the parts of your personality that make up who you are.  Spend a moment getting to know this facet of yourself...

(pause)

It is time to leave this persona.  Before you leave, this facet offers you a bit of advice.

(pause and listen)

You give your thanks and the persona closes the door with a smile.  Another door beckons.  Spend time meeting various aspects of yourself

(pause for interaction)

Now it is time to go.

Make your way to the door of your house.  Take another look around you.  In this space, you can meet all the various parts of yourself anytime you wish.  You want to return here again and continue exploring.  You step outside and onto the path.  As you walk away, take one more look so that the memory is etched into your mind.  When you turn back, you find your portal back to your safe inner space.  You step through and count back to ordinary consciousness.

Now, write down all that you remember from your meditation...then read on...

For Contemplation upon your return..scroll down to the next post...

Greetings Everyone!

I am so impressed with your progress so far and I am excited to see you not giving up and pushing forward in your meditations.

Have you ever woken up in the morning...or think you have, but for a moment you're not sure?  Perhaps you even swing your feet out over the bed and stood up, ready to begin the day.  But then you paused because something just didn't feel right or familiar.  Just as the question, Is this real or a dream? began to take form in your mind, you suddenly found yourself lying in your bed actually waking.

Have you ever been so absorbed in a favorite book or movie that the world disappeared and you became part of the story?  As the credits rolled or you closed the pages, it may even have taken you a few minutes to realize where, and sometimes who, you really were.

Have you ever wandered into a daydream during a business meeting, vlass, o in the checkout line in a grocery store--the kind where you became so engrossed that it took someone repeating your name or even tapping you on the shoulder before you realized that a response was being requested of you?

Each of these examples is a form of trance or altered state of consciousness.  These changes of consciousness take you from the ordinary to ...well...somewhere else.

We, as witches, can enter into these inner "transes" by choice.  Altering of consciousness in accordance with will is one of the primary skills of magick--the art of creating change.  For this reason, many of us spend a lot of time learning how to enter and return safely from these states.  It is important in ritual and in meditation.

In the next meditation, I would like you to control your inner self as you meet another in the meditation, mentally ask questions and then write down the answer that is given.  Explore and physically look around and see what you can learn from the surroundings of the meditation.  This is the beginning of you controling your meditation and your pathworking.

Now for Meditation # 3...
"Harvest Time"
---> Scroll Down <---
Gather your Pen and journal and you may even wish to light a candle or fall incense to help in this journey into your inner mind.

Take the deep cleansing breaths that are now familiar to you as you center and focus...do this until you feel you are ready to proceed.

as you are now focused you find as you take that one deep breath that you smell the burning and decaying leaves and see that it is all around you.

You now find yourself entering into a clearing.  The air holds a slight chill.  The trees of the forest have taken bright colors since last you visited.  Vibrant reds and oranges mix among the many shades of greens and yellows.  A brook flows gently by.  Along its edges are clusters of colorful leaves, carried there by the flowing water.  On the other side of the waters you can see the gentle slope of a pasture and the remenants of a vegetable garden.

The sounds of music and laughter touch your ears.  They come from the forest.  You realize that this is the harvest feast.  Eagerly , you follow the sound.  It leads you to a path.  You pass under the large branches of a hawthorn and an oak tree and enter the forest.  The sounds of laughter and merriment guide you.  The woods smell dark and rich, of old growth that is decaying.  You see a dark, moss-covered log, a tree long fallen.  On the other side of it, you notice what must have been a small vernal pool in spring.  The waters receded during the heat of summer, leaving just wet mud and fallen leaves.  The frogs have moved on.

You continue on.  The path begins to climb and the trees start to thin.  The voices are getting louder.  You emerge from the woods into an apple orchard on the top of a gentle hill.  The apple trees are partially filled with red fruit.  Over-ripe apples, fallen from the trees are scattered on the ground.  Their sweet scent fills the air.  Bees buzz by you, to land on the decaying fruit, collecting the sugar held within the apples.  Old wooden ladders stand under the trees, and baskets filled with apples rest on the  ground.  As you approach the nearest tree, you reach up to a branch and pick a missed fruit.  Its shiny skin feels smooth and warm in your hand.  You realize that if you cut the apple in half, you will find the star that is hidden within it.  Take a bite of the fruit and savor the gift of the Earth and the Goddess.  Feel its sweetness on your tongue.  (pause)

You allow the laughter and the music to draw you to the far end of the grove.  As you approach, you see the harvest fair.  You can see many happy people, gathered around a small group of musicians.  Perhaps some of the young folk are dancing.  You may want to join them later on.

Makeshift tables and canopies have been set up in rows.  Look around...what do you see?  Take a moment to write down discriptions of what is there.

After a while, the sound of cheering attracts you.  You realize at the end of the fairgrounds, beneath a large canopy, a crowd of people have gathered.  Curious, you go and join them.  Under the tarp, you see a small stage.  On either side are baskets.  Each  has a sign nearby with  the word "SEED" printed on it in big black letters.

A woman stands on the stage, reviewing a group of zucchini presented to Her by their growers.  She has full hips and breasts of motherhood.  Her hair is pulled back in a matronly fashion.  A crown of grain and fall flowers sit upon her head.  She has a regal air of ancient wisdom about Her.  You recognize this is Demeter, the harvest Mother.

She views the offerings before Her.  Then She points to the two largest and best of the fruits.  A cheer raises from the crowd.  The winning farmers, with grins on their faces, thank the Goddess and walk to the waiting baskets where they put the prize fruit inside. More and more vegetibles and bounty are brought and judged and soon there are full baskets for future seed to improve the crops of the next wheel.  The remaining bounty is to be made into winter meals for all to share.

During a break the Goddess approaches you.  She slowly looks you over from your toes to the top of your head.  You know she is quietly judging you.  Think of each part of you and see what parts will be used now,..and which will be kept for seed to improve your walk.  You know that there are parts that need to be culled and others that need improved... She looks straight into your eyes with the question unspoken.  Allow your own answer to fill you.  (pause)  Write this down...

She smiles and nods Her satisfaction and returns to the competition.  Stay , if you will, watching the seperation of the harvest,..... or return to the festivities.  Spend time enjoying the sounds, the sights...the smells...If there is someone you wish to speak with, take a moment to do it now and write down all that you experience.

It is time to return , now and you wander back as the people wave their good-byes to you and you return their pleasentries.  As you make your way back , you take one last apple from the grove and notice that the baskets of apples have been gathered and taken away.  You continue back down the gentle slope to the ancient path through the forest.  You pass the moss laden log and go under the oak and the hawthorn branches and return to the clearing.  Take one last look around and find your way back to your inner home.

Really think about this meditation and write out your deepest thoughts.  Draw a picture of your mentle bounty and see what comes up in this bit of pathworking.  Good Luck and I look forward to your sharing what you learned from this experience.

Meditation # 4 - "Feelings of Winter Silence"

Meditation for Winter

Prepare yourself for meditation in the usual way ...get your meditation journal and a pen .  Sit in your special place and totally relax your body as you count down into your meditative grounding and centering.

In your mind visualize a tree in your yard or neighborhood. In the previous months you have seen this the leaves on the tree turn color, then fade and fall off. As the weather has turned cooler the energy of the tree has slowed down. Energy and water still comes from the roots, nourishing the tree until the ground freezes. Eventually the tree is asleep as the air and environment freezes. It’s still alive, but conserving and storing energy for the long dark months.

One day, in winter you notice the tree is covered in white crystalline frost. You step outside and the whole world is white. It could be midnight but the sky is white, the ground is white and surprisingly light. All trees and bushes are covered in the frost and you notice all is totally silent. This is the magic of winter. No birds, no traffic, no insects, no children, total silence.

Winter has the shortest days and the longest nights, although some of those nights are bright in the reflected snow. It is a time for reflection, for conservation of energy.

Remember the feeling of that total silence in the frosty air. Your breath should be quiet and silent. Quiet your thoughts and bring your energy and attention inward. Reflect on the balance in your life during this season of conservation. Ask yourself if you are expending too much energy in one area in your life?

Are you giving enough time for slow, contemplative pursuits?

We all have family activities that cannot be forfeited during the winter months, but they can be approached with a different attitude. What should this attitude be for you in keeping with the balance that you need in your life?

Ask yourself , “What is one area that I need to change to honor the winter season, and to be more in harmony with the cycle of nature??

We build our immune system during the winter with adequate sleep, nourishing foods prepared and eaten with thanksgiving, , moving our joints and muscles daily with a yoga practice and other exercise, enjoying the sun as much as possible when it appears, spending time with family and friends in a loving and social atmosphere, reflection, meditation & keeping our surroundings clean and uncluttered. Are there changes you need to make to strengthen your immune system this winter?

Enjoy the silence for a few more minutes. Then write your thoughts in your journal.  After you do this, besure to come and post about your experience.

Blessings Always

Meditation # 5 "the Sleigh Ride"

   The Sleigh Ride Yule Meditation
 by
Lady Majyk Myst

Breathe deep and ground yourself as you are used to doing and do this at least four times as you feel your body relax and prepare itself for meditation and the journey ahead.  Breath ...1..2...3 ....4... exhale slowly...1...2...3....4. and again...

As you close your eyes you find yourself breathing more shallow , you feel the coolness of the winter morning hit your nostrils and smile as you breathe in the morning air.

You look across the sunlit pasture, full of diamonds  glittering on the fresh fallen snow.  It is a beautiful day and the crispness of the air is invigorating.  It isn't really cold, but still you grab a muffler and wait.

As you take in the scene, you hear a jingle in the distance and look toward the deep green forest that seems to be laced with white fur coats donning each tree.  It is a scene that you have enjoyed every Yule season.

The jingle gets louder and you see the sleigh pull up and stop.  Waiting for you to board.  It is a glorious sleigh with filigree scrolled sides.  The playfulness of the sleigh's grace is very inviting and luxurious.  This is a deep scooped carriage sporting a velvet seat that you know is plush with softness.

The second seat in front was filled with the girth of an elderly man you instantly knew had much experience with the sleigh and the animal that pulled it. The horse is massive and it's mane flowed slightly with the toss of it's head.  You knew it's mass and rippled muscles could pull much more than the sleigh.  This Belgian horse was used to hard work and was happy to be out and doing light pulling  this day.  The driver jumped down and checked the harness as he patted the beast.  He turned with a grizzles wink and smile.

You walk over with the snow crunching under your steps   The driver helps you up and you snuggle into the furs that lay on the cushioned bench seat.  As you settle in with only your nose peeking from the warmth of the furs, the sleigh starts with a slight jerk.  You again hear the rhythm of the sleigh bells and the slap of the leather and the yoke.  The horse's mane is bouncing and you love the aroma of the ride.
As you drift you see a covered bridge and wonder where it appeared from.  As you approach, the driver turns and smiles.
He is ancient and a white beard is all you can make of his face.  He is dressed in fur and Holly is crowning his shrouding head covering.  He seems happy and you again smile.  As you get closer to the bridge he asks you how your year has been and you think about everything that has happened.  So much flashes through your mind and you take time to tell him...(pause and "tell him")...
You continue to relay the year's happenings when  the sleigh enters the covered wooden bridge.
It is dark in this place and you notice it is longer than you thought.  you can no longer see the driver or the horse that pulls you in comfort.  You are silent and think of what could lay ahead.  the jingle of the bells assure you that all is fine and you are moving ahead.  The darkness envelopes you and you snuggle deeper into the comforting furs, not knowing what lay ahead.  the sleigh stops and you hear a voice to the lower side of the sleigh.  "It is fine, my child...do not worry ...the railings just need waxing to be able to continue.."

You leave the old man to his work and feel the comfort of the fur and sleigh cradling you.  You feel the need to sleep and you drift away.

As you dream, you think of the Goddess and her love  and how Her earth is snuggled in as you are snuggled and encased in warmth.  You smile in the dark and make plans for your future...(pause and think of what those are...)
Soon there is a weight on the sleigh and the movement of the horse and carriage is felt with a jerk.  The rhythm of the harness bells resume their music and the light is seen as the bridge end is approached.  The sun greets you as you emerge and the diamonds are all around you once more ...even more brilliant than before.

As you glance at the old driver.  You noticed that he has changed and is now in his prime.  He sports Fresh Oak leaves and his vestige is leather and fur.  He ripples with strength and you know that there has been a wonderful change.  This viral man is one that is surly in charge and confident of his plight.  He is one you feel safe with.
You breathe deep and wonder how long you were in the darkened bridge.  You feel so refreshed and ready for the newness of the day as the sun shines brightly overhead.  This review of your year and plan for your future has been good and you feel ready to proceed with the plans.

As you aproach the end of your ride, you smile and say good-bye to the driver.  He smiles with a wink and you feel a flush of warmth fill you from the inside out.  This is a wondrous Figure and he assures you that he will always be here for you when you need him.

With that you turn and stroll to your destination.  You breathe deep and count back from ten to one.  With each number, you feel more refreshed and well.  You reach number one and stretch and are wide awake and ready for a wonderful day

 Meditation # 6 - "Meeting Ma`aglynn & the Journey within"

I hope you enjoyed the beginnings of experiencing meditation and found yourself relaxed with last several weeks of visua meditationsl.  It is time to get ready for our next journey and as you grow more comfortable with each session, you must realize that your are also growing more secure in focusing yourself to be able to gather the power needed for ritual as well as just getting yourself healthier and able to control your emotion.  That is something that is very handy after a long day.

It is time to gather your things to make your meditation the best it can be.  Turn off anything that may bother you or take your attention from your intent.  You may like to light a candle and / or some incense as that helps some of us to calm our minds.  Get your journal and make sure it is handy and the ink in your writing instrument is flowing well.  Nothing is more frustrating than a pen that won't write.  Take off your glasses and any restraining clothing that you might be wearing.  Are you ready?

***********************

Relax and get comfortable. Close your eyes and take three deep breaths....Find yourself grounding ....you do this as you have previously learned.  Your body is becoming used to the grounding and you will do it almost immediately after the thought... "GROUND"

(pause and keep breathing in regular deep breaths)

You are standing on a frozen path that leads into a wide meadow covered with snow.  The air is chilly and you feel an ache in your bones that tells you that you have travelled too far without a rest.  The last light of afternoon is flickering and you know it will soon be dark

In the center of the meadow stands an ancient oak tree, taller than any oak you have ever seen.  A door at its base leads into the tree trunk, and you can see a house built in the limbs and branches at the crotch of the tree. This is where your journey leads to...

You have come to this place to meet Ma`aglynn.  Along this journey, you have heard rumors of how wise this man is.  Now you have found his home and you are ready to ask him if he will teach you that which you need to know in order to manifest your dreams.

The clouds are blowing in on the chill wind, and thick flakes of snow begin to fall.  A golden light is glowing from the window of the tree house and your feet propel you down the path, into the meadow.  Soon you are at the door.

The ancient tree is far wider than you first imagined, at least fifteen people could hold hands and still not circle the base. You take a deep breath and knock at the door.

In a few moments the door creeks open and a young girl, holding a candle peers out at you.  She wears a robe that matches the silvery sky and her eyes reveal an age far older than her body's years.  She stands back and bids you enter.  "The night is cold, Be welcome, stranger."

She leads you to the center of the room inside the trunk of the mighty oak, where a staricace circles high into the upper reaches of the tree.  Without a word, she begins to ascend the steps, indicating that you should follow her.

As you pass through the tree you get the feeling of immense age and strength surrounding you.  While the tree is hollow, you sense it is very much alive and that the very cells of this oak are saturated with years of magickal workings and energy.  You can not help but reach out to touch the hard, polished wood.  When you do, a surge of power races through your body.

The staircase opens up into a large parlor.  The girl stands back, allowing you to pass in front of  her.as she points to a chair.  "My father will be with you shortly." and disappears through a door to your left.

Two rocking chairs and a small divan encircle a glowing fire - but when you come close to warm yourself, you notice that no wood fuels this flame, and no smoke rises from the hearth.  Warmth soaks into your body, though, and regardless of the source, the heat is welcome after the bitter cold of the outdoors.

You now sit in one of the chairs and look around.  The room has a golden quality to it - a warm homey environment.  A long plank table with matching benches sits in one corner and books line the wall.  You begin looking through the titles.  You have already read several, but there are many others you have never heard of before. Many are ancient and you know it they are filled with wonderful knowledge.

Several doors lead out of the parlor.  Before long the girl reappears, with her enters a man wearing a brown tunic and trousers.  He is bald and bearded and carries a long staff bedecked with feathers, fur, and crystals.

He holds his hand out to you and welcomes you.  "Come...dine with us."

You feel the need to explain your presence, but when you start to speak, he raises one hand. "Patience.  There is time enough for discussion.  Now eat."

The girl had set the table and brought in a tureen of soup and the scent of fresh-baked bread fills the room. You eat with relish and silence. (Pause)

After you have eaten, you find the food has warmed more than your belly.  The chill from the snow is gone and you feel quite comfortable.

The man escorts you back to the fire; he sits in one of the rocking chairs while his daughter curls up on the divan.  "So you seek a teacher?"

As you nod he continues, "My students learn many lessons here.  You must understand, I have no answers for you.  I merely help you discover this knowledge within yourself."

His voice is learned and low, "Now that you have supped with me...I want you to close your eyes, I am going to take you on a journey."

You do as you are told and breathe deep breaths.  You follow his words and let them lead you within yourself.   As he speaks, your mind swirls and the one thing that you needed answers to has appeared.  He guides you to confront it.  You listen to a voice deep within and know that this is where wisdom resides...  (pause and listen)

Maaglynn sits beside you.  You hear him speaking.  "I know these questions are not easily answered.  They can make your head spin... but know you will return to them time and again for the rest of your journey.  Lastly, remember that at the end of a quest lies the beginning of another.  Life is a cycle and even though you may accomplish something wonderful, there is always new paths lying beyond the one on which you presently walk.
You see, I do not give you wisdom, but, only help you discover it within yourself.   You have come to the end of the first part of your journey.  You have all the tools you need to accomplish your goals.  Your path now leads you into the growth of your will."

You now have a chance to ask Maaglynn what you will and he will answer.  (pause and listen)

He stands and gestures to the girl , "My daughter will see to your room for the night and you may rest before you head off  to your quest.  You are now satisfied that you know what to do and go with excitement in your heart.

***********************

You now count from ten to one and become aware of your surroundings...you feel refreshed and ready for the world.

Remember, to write down all that has come to you during this meditation.  I look forward to hearing about your experience.

Bright Blessings

Setting the Stage for Spring

Prepare your space and count down as you relax and breath to the count of 4 ..in..and out...in...and out...close your eyes for a moment and continue to breath slowly and deeply as you find yourself centering and in total focus for the journey within.

The perfect spring house is perched on a hill. Its eaves are steeped in clouds. Sky peers in through the window. The first rays of dawn turn the slate roof a warm, golden pink. Scores of birds nest in the gables; their lively singing in the morning and the freshness of the wind make it seem as if the house is flying. But that flight is anchored in the quickening earth.

All around the house are freshly dug garden beds, vivid with new shoots and leaves. Fruit trees incline toward the wall, branches starred with blossoms. Fallen petals drift across the door.

Inside, there is a sense of order and spaciousness. When you walk into the kitchen, you notice the clean, fresh feeling there. You stand You stand in the middle of the room, taking a deep breath as you look around at the sunrise colors; pale rose, buttercup yellow, the tender blue of a wild bird's egg. Someone has polished the floor with loving attention. Someone has cleaned the countertops until they shine.

In the center of the scrubbed wooden table is a pot of flowering paperwhites. Their wild, sweet scent permeates the room. AA nest sits nearby, filled with eggs decorated by hand--magickal eggs...with wishes in them.

The spring house is alive with a sense of the future. In it, plans, dreams, and inspirations can be planted and nurtured. The door to the outer world is opening. As you look outside at the blossoming earth, your mind fills with hope.

As you sit and enjoy this special spring morning you look within...you find yourself suddenly sitting inside a large egg. See the smooth, curving walls the gentle darkness, the way the egg fits you perfectly, enclosing you within a small universe. It is quiet and safe...the only world you have ever known. But you are growing. The eggshell is gradually becoming cramped and close. You become aware of an urgent desire to stretch, to expand. The walls are hard and thick. You are empelled- through some mysterious force of soul - to push....to push hard. You need space to grow.

The walls suddenly crack. You push harder still. Perhaps you kick or hit the walls with your fists. Soon the walls begin to break open and you peer out. The shell is sharp and scratchy; it can hurt to break out if your shell and you tend to struggle to decide whether you want to more forward. but you know you have gone too far to turn back. Suddenly there is a vast, enormous vista before you, a world you never dreamed of, a spaciousness you never imagined possible. Look around at this huge expanse. Remember all the wonders open to you. What do you see? There is unlimited room and potential for growth. Stretch yourself as fully as you can. Really allow yourself to feel the exaltation of breaking free into something larger than the familiar. Remember this and feel the freedom you have to expand.

As you come back to the spring house , you smile and open your eyes. take a deep breath and know that spring is full of new expectations and the Universe is available to you. Take note and start today to start being brand new.

Meditation # 8 - "Sound of No Sound.."

Greetings Everyone,

You have all been doing so well with the visual meditation that I thought I would try to give you something a little different  with thes meditation...so read on...

What is the sound of no sound?

Civilization is noisy. In the city, sound bombards our ears. We have automobile noises, barking  dogs, hammers pounding, music throbbing, and people making the many sounds that people make. All the noise can be irritating. It can interfere with concentration and impede communication. But we adapt to it. After a while, the people living near the airport no longer hear the airplanes taking off. The loudness becomes background and it isn’t noticeable.

The mind is constantly moving attention from foreground to background and back. The stimulus in the foreground gets our attention. The loud noise becomes the foreground as it catches our focus. As we get used to hearing the noise, it moves into the background of our consciousness. We are no longer aware of it. If the pattern of sound should change, however, it catches our attention and moves back into awareness.

Some music moves quickly into the background. Music that matches the rhythms of our body and environment will become background quickly. Jarring, loud, fast music will hold our attention longer. This is why some otherwise unappealing music can be quite compelling. It catches our attention and holds it. While our attention is held by the sound it won’t be somewhere else. If the neighborhood of our mind is particularly unpleasant, music that takes us away from there can become addictive.

Speaking of addictive sense experiences, the sounds and sights of video poker and computer games are designed to draw us into the experience. They can  blot out the rest of the world from awareness and provoke a stimulated state in which we truly become wired. The human being becomes a peripheral device of the machine. The ever changing patterns of color and sound vibrate our nervous system. We fire our synapses at the rate established by the source of the stimulus, and as our cognition is fully engaged in beating the game, we lose ourselves, forget our troubles, and may experience elation. It is an elation, however, born of separation from our real world. We are swept up and carried away. We are not here in our being.

If we want to be in touch with our lives, attuned to our true nature, we must cultivate a certain amount of silence. Historically, some monks and other ascetics have taken vows of silence in order to be closer to the source of all that is. To hear the murmurs of the spirit one needs to keep quiet, at least some of the time. Peaceful silence allows us to be mindful of our inner world. We can focus on our thoughts and feelings. Or we can go deeper to the state beyond thought and feeling where we may find true peace and true joy.

A quiet mind enables us to vibrate at a subtler frequency. Like a radio telescope picking up faint signals from distant galaxies, we become instruments connecting with a bigger cosmos. We become more attuned to intuition. We become more aware of synchronicity and the workings of providence and serendipity in our lives. In silence we may find peace and a deeper sense of our place in the scheme of things.

Practice:

Take some time to listen to your environment. Note, in your journal, the sounds you can hear now. What sounds draw your attention? What sounds had moved into the background so that you hadn’t been noticing them? As you notice them, they move into the foreground of your awareness. For a few moments, just let your awareness follow the sounds that reach you.

Notice any emotions that arise in you with the sounds. Do you, for instance, feel annoyed at the sounds that draw your attention? Or do they perhaps give you a feeling of comfort?

Practice letting the sounds just wash over you and through you. Let go of the emotions that the sounds generate. Instead of responding to them, just receive the sounds as the vibrations in air that they are. Let go of interpretation. Let go of your projection of emotion. Just be in your awareness of sound.

After a while, turn your attention to the sounds inside your body. Stretch a little and get yourself into a comfortable position. Do you hear the readjustment of your connective tissues as you move?

Notice the sound of your breath. Just listen to your breathing for a little while.

What sounds do you hear in your head? Can you perhaps hear blood pulsing? Can you feel it? Can you hear or feel your heart beating? Digestive sounds? What else?

If it is very quiet and you are quite still, you may hear the subtle sound of air vibrating in the absence of sound waves.

Take your time. Sit in the silence that is beyond sound and beyond no sound.

Be sure to journal this full experience and then come here and let me know what you learned.

SIMPLE MEDITATION

This meditation process is good to induce relaxation response. Plan to make meditation a regular part of your daily routine. Set aside 10 to 20 minutes each day at the same time, if possible. Before breakfast is a good time.
Choose a quiet spot where you will not be disturbed by other people or by the telephone.
Sit quietly in a comfortable position. Refer to the section on postures for recommendations on sitting positions.
Eliminate distractions and interruptions during the period you'll be meditating.
Commit yourself to a specific length of time and try to stick to it.
Pick a focus word or short phrase that's firmly rooted in your personal belief system. A non-religious person might choose a neutral word like one, peace, or love. Others might use the opening words of a favorite prayer from their religion such as 'Hail Mary full of Grace', "I surrender all to you", "Hallelujah", "Om", etc.
Close your eyes. This makes it easy to concentrate.
Relax your muscles sequentially from head to feet. This helps to break the connection between stressful thoughts and a tense body. Starting with your forehead, become aware of tension as you breathe in. Let go of any obvious tension as you breathe out. Go through the rest of your body in this way, proceeding down through your eyes, jaws, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, chest, upper back, middle back and midriff, lower back, belly, pelvis, buttocks, thighs, calves, and feet.
Breathe slowly and naturally, repeating your focus word or phrase silently as you exhale.
Assume a passive attitude. Don't worry about how well you're doing. When other thoughts come to mind, simply say, "Oh, well," and gently return to the repetition.
Continue for 10 to 20 minutes. You may open your eyes to check the time, but do not use an alarm. After you finish: Sit quietly for a minute or so, at first with your eyes closed and later with your eyes open. Do not stand for one or two minutes.
Plan for a session once or twice a day.
