Scott just left for Defender's Day at Ft. McHenry.  I said in my other post that it's to celebrate the battle during which the Star-Spangled Banner was written in case you didn't see it - thus the name of my post!

What to do what to do what to do...

Should I...

...cut back all my perennials?  Scott said if I did he'd help me clean up all the mess tomorrow
...take care of all the stuff from Erik's room?
...caulk the bathroom?
...do regular cleaning?

Decisions decisions

I did get both of the in-use bathrooms wiped down minimally altho the boys' bathroom looks awful from my baby powder.  I think I may give up the joys of baby powder in our new bathroom just to avoid the mess.  And I cleaned up the kitchen - the floor could use a good mopping but it's not terrible - mostly spotty from footprints (I hate laminate).  So the house doesn't look that bad but it's not really clean clean.  The stuff from Erik's room is all over the playroom and dining room so it makes everything look worse than it is.  I didn't even touch our bedroom - I should probably clean it up - at least make the bed - because I know my MIL will want to see the bathroom (by the way, she said 11 and it's 12:30 now and she hasn't even called - see what I said about her timetable?).

I don't think my family (Chane went too) will be home 'til very late - I'm guessing somewhere between 11 and 12 since the fireworks start at 9 and they are re-enacting "the bombs bursting in air" so I know Scott will stay for that.  I think I'll shower, then putter around here for a few hours, then relax and watch tv or read...

what have i done so far since they left?  zilch i guess.  i did take a shower but lazy me didn't even put the chemicals in my hair that it needs.  i'll regret that when it dries and the frizziness drives me nuts (even if i'm not going anywhere the frizziness feels different so it bugs the crap out of me).  i didn't even lotion my face which i always do and takes 30 seconds.

have a headache.  not sure what i'm going to do.  my mil came up for about an hour.  my house always looks so dirty to me thru her eyes.  and she always makes inane comments that make no sense.  i swear i think she's losing her mind.  she left the peaches plus corn, plums, cantaloupe, and tomatoes.  i'm still not sure of the point of her visit!  i showed her my curtains and the master bathroom.  she made a comment about my new wire baskets (got 2 at a yard sale for $1 and scott bought me one at walmart for $5) - "oh are you into wire stuff now?"  i said i had been for awhile but could never afford any i saw.  so look out, i bet i get a ton of wire stuff!  she said the curtains i was going to use were too "halloween" - the other ones that i really liked  but couldn't get enough fabric to make them.  she didn't say that when i was going to put them up, she kept it to herself until i told her i'm not going to use them.  i still like them - i don't think they're too halloween.  i'm still going to use that fabric somewhere i swear!

i think my reheated pizza is done.  that should make my headache worse!

just sat down here and i hear something outside the window.  something tells me miss sami is out.  she must have gotten out earlier - i haven't seen her all day.

well i did some caulking.  which was going okay until the tape ripped the paint off the wall when i tried to caulk the shower surround.  i had some other caulk-type stuff that is about 1" wide plastic so i covered everything with that but not sure if that is the right kind of thing - only had enuff for one side so i put it up and am gonna see tomorrow if it worked.  otherwise i got the window caulked, the floor beside the tub, and the toilet bottom.  i can't do the vanity or the rest of the surround - the vanity's not screwed in yet and the surround will have to be done with the plastic stuff to make it match so i'll need to buy more later.

hmm sami's at her bowl - wonder what's outside the window???  and where has she been all day??

also got the light fixture hooked up.  it's a bit wobbly so i have to take it back down and tighten the screws but nice to know that it will go up easily and fit.  couldn't remember which wire is which since it's a yard sale fixture with no instructions so i took out the instructions to the new fixture and double-checked.  i didn't get electrocuted or burn the house down and the lightbulbs light up so it must be right!! :-)  i put the last 2 up before this one so i knew it wouldn't be hard.

microwaving some water for fake mashed potatoes and going to watch pretty woman.  have a massive headache.  scott & kids are still at ft mchenry.  he'll be surprised by the light fixture.  funny how that was the easy job - the caulk was hard but not as noticeable.  he'll be impressed by the light more than the caulk

Hey Joni, wow a day to yourself to relax, cool! Sounds like you got a lot done as usual! Still kind of relaxing to just be alone isn't it?

I went to the rental house today alone. Clint did not want to go. He stayed home, made the kids clean the house and took them shopping.

So, here is what I did today, I think I got a good amount done.
Rental house
1. spray painted vents
2. painted outside of a couple of cabinets
3. scrubbed the kitchen floor (NASTY!)
4. went to the store the get a couple of things and saw my mother and step father so talked to them for a long time in the store.
5. cleaned up a bunch of junk in the kitchen
6. scrubbed the counter tops
7. put shelves back in cabinets
8. spray pained cabinet door knobs

Home
1. Started a load of laundry, will probably have to re wash them tomorrow because they have been sitting there all day and I am too tired to do anything about it now.
2. Made a big batch of graham crackers for snack tomorrow

Now I'm pretty beat

see jac?  because you didn't have kids around you were able to work like a bandit.  even if the kids aren't actually near your or asking for anything, having their energy in the house makes it hard to dive into a big project.  gj for all that work you got done!  are you getting ready to rent the house again?  and gj to clint for making the kids clean the house!

i can't believe you came home and baked after that.

ps if you put white vinegar in every washload, they don't sour as fast.  i usually forget tho :-(
pps just went out and exchanged medicine cabinets.  the first one was a huge oval with a decorative pewter frame that was so pretty but it was just too massive plus the fact that it was oval made it really obvious that i couldn't center it right under the light fixture because the top of the oval didn't hit under the middle light.  was going to get the same frame in a rectangle but it was $50 more and i said no way.  so i ended up with a rectangle framed in very wide black (it says rubbed bronze but it's very close to black) frame and it looks AWESOME!!!!!  it's about 5" smaller in width and 4" in height and it's perfect!  my new light fixture is also a rubbed black.  i was going to get white like the vanity after my pewter one was too $$ but decided i don't want oceans of white in there and this dresses up the bathroom SO nicely!  i love it!!!  so nice when something goes right! :-)

Joni, it really sounds like your bathroom is going to be beautiful. I hope you post pictures when you get it done!

oh you know i'll post pics lol.  i can't help myself!

okay let me just say again...

REMODELING SUCKS!

i tried to put the med cabinet in by myself but the anchor bolt was too big for the hole i drilled so it got smashed when i hammered it.  had to call scott to come help.  so he helped me get the med cabinet up.  then i whined until he helped me start the big cabinet.  omg it's so massive!  it dominates the whole room.  but it will give me storage.  anyway we spent all this time and energy trying to get it up - got to the point where i was screwing in the screws and they are not long enough.  argh!

if anyone ever buys this house and tries to renovate they will be amazed at what is hidden behind things.  we must have drilled 6 holes looking for studs.  since our walls are drywall but covered in a layer of plaster stud finders don't work.

anyway scott is running back out to lowe's to get longer screws.  remodeling is so frustrating.  not to mention it's over 90 degrees here and we don't have to air on so sweat is running off of scott (who threatened to strip down to nothing while doing this and the thought of screwing the cabinet screws in while peeping between his legs (he's above me holding this heavy cabinet while i'm working the drill) gave me chills lol.  i literally had to walk away when he said that!  we bicker a LOT when we do this stuff but then we make up so i think we're okay right now.
