7:50-8:00

  • Collect marbles
  • Law of the Pack
  • Collect hands
  • Make sure everyone let me take their pictures
  • Ask Bethany about Wolf questionnaire

Hand Instructions:

  • Put your hand on the red paper so that it covers your name - use any hand position you want (closed fingers, pointing, opening fingers, etc)
  • Trace your hand on the red paper on the side that has your name written on it - try to make sure your name ends up inside your hand
  • Cut out the hand
  • Turn it over and glue the yellow square onto your hand anywhere you want (can be on the palm, fingers, etc)

Positive Attitude

  • Complain about:
    • They'll probably forget to let us do the skit,
    • I'll probably forget the props,
    • we probably won't be loud enough because the microphone is hard to hold while doing a skit and the room is noisy,
    • I don't know why we even bother to do a skit,
    • it's hot in here, why is it always hot in here?,
    • we only have 8 den meetings let before the blue & gold banquet - that's probably not enough to get all of our stuff done,
    • the meetings aren't long enough to do everything,
    • why do they make us do so many things?,
    • I'm not a very good den leader anyway because a good den leader would know how to get all of this stuff done without worrying about it
  • Ask how I make them feel grumbling and complaining?
  • Ask what they think a positive attitude is?
  • Ask about the different things I complained about and how I could change my thinking:
  • If they forget to let us do the skit, what should we do?  What's the worst that would happen?
  • If I forget the props, what is the worst that would happen?  What could I do to fix it?  Should I have a backup plan if I'm worried?  Should I plan an extra skit or make sure I have a reminder note to myself about bringing the props?
  • What can we do to make sure we are loud enough?
  • What could I do instead of grumbling that I'm hot?
  • How could I change my thinking about the amount of stuff to do before the blue & gold banquet?  Could I ask for help?  Could I make sure I plan the right things and maybe cut out some extra things we do?  Could I plan a go-see-it on a weekend to squeeze in an extra meeting?
  • If I think I'm not a good den leader, will I be a good den leader?  If I think we won't get everything done and give up, are we more or less likely to get everything done?
  • Ask them about some things that make them feel frustrated or bad or want to give up.  Ask for solutions or how positive thinking can help?  Tell about how I have trouble with organizing and remembering and what I do to fix it.

  • Your chart has the dates and health habits already on it.  You can decide if you want to use check marks, tallies, stickers to track your habits.  If you do something more than once in a day, put more than one mark or sticker.  For "play outdoors," you will write in the number of minutes.  For "sleep," you will write in the number of hours from the night before.
  • Decorate your chart. You can make a new one if you'd like to make it bigger or write the words yourself.   You can change the dates if you forget to start tomorrow.  If you need an extra one of the one I gave you, ask your Akela to email me and I'll send one by email.
  • Post it where you can remember to fill it in.
  • Each day, keep track of your habits.
  • Let Miss Joni know when your chart is all done (ask your Akela to send me an email).  You don't need to bring it back, but you can if you want to show it to me before or after the meeting.  I would love to see it! :-)

Set Up at Church:

In Kitchen:
  • Put all * items in kitchen (including hourglass)
  • Lay out 13 sets (11 for Scouts plus 2 extra for siblings or Gabe) of 2 dixie cups each plus 13 sheets of wax paper big enough to work on (will be making something about the size of a small tortilla shell so a little bigger than that)
  • Put about 1 Tbsp cheese in one dixie cup at each setting
  • Put about 6 pepperonis in the other dixie cup at each setting
  • You should end up with 13 cooking stations that each have a piece of waxed paper, a dixie cup of cheese, and a dixie cup of papperoni.
  • Split pizza sauce between 13 dixie cups and set aside (don't put near other settings or kids may think they need to put sauce inside what they are making but it is really for afterward)
  • Put parchment paper with names on baking sheets with no parchment paper hanging over (it can catch on fire if it overhangs the baking sheet)
  • See if kitchen has any extra rolling pins
  • Lay out hourglass, oven mitts, cooling racks, and rolling pins
  • Last thing before meeting starts, preheat oven to 350 degrees
In Room:
  • Videotape room before any kids get there including inside of little kitchen (ask Todd to do if he's there, he's used to me doing it to protect us from the preschool who think we destroy the room)
  • Lay out newsletters and marbles (Andrew can do - Chane usually does this but I think Scott plans to keep him upstairs until the meeting starts)
  • Write out Cub Scout Promise on part of board
  • Draw food diagram on part of board (draw a box divided into four quarters with each food group listed in a quadrant with examples of what's in that food group - don't forget eggs and nuts in meat group)
  • Get out scissors and glue sticks for later -put on leader table
  • Lay out fliers and food charts on leader table for later
  • When Ashley drops off Tyler Hartlaub, please get her phone # and email and tell her I need to talk to her
Rough Meeting Schedule:

7:00-7:05
  • Flag Salute - Jarrod leads
    • Let him pick formation (circle, square, line)
    • Remind him to say "please rise," "Scout salute," "Two" (after Pledge), and "Please be seated"

7:05-7:25
  • Tell kids sharing will be later - if Andrew Sager has magazines, tell him he will probably get a chance to share them later after you get back to room
  • Have kids wash and DRY hands
  • Take kids to kitchen
  • Read through recipe to kids before they start - emphasize following directions
  • Let kids roll out dough or use hands - if it sticks, use flour in small baggie to dust their hands
  • Assemble breadsticks according to recipe
(I added sprinkling oregano over breadsticks at end of my copy of the recipe but it's not on the recipe at the link above)
  • ADULT puts on parchment paper beside each kid's name
  • ADULT cuts the vents - cut only through top layer to keep cheese and grease from coming out
  • ADULT sprinkles on oregano only for kids who want it
  • Encourage kids to make the breadsticks by the recipe even if they are not pepperoni or cheese fans but they can leave the pepperoni or cheese out if they insist
  • Ask one adult if they can stay behind and clean up kitchen once you are done - make sure they know all the cooking stuff comes back to me except any rolling pins that might have come from the kitchen (my two rolling pins are dark pink, one large, one small) - if they leave in box in kitchen, Scott will pick up
7:25-7:45
  • While baking - kids can sit on floor and share stories from vacation using hourglass
7:45-7:55
  • Put water in unused dixie cups for the kids to drink with their breadsticks
  • Cool and eat breadsticks on cooling racks
  • WARN KIDS filling might be HOT
  • Give kids sauce cups and tell them to try with and without sauce
  • Have each child clean up their mess
  • Go back to room
Before End of Meeting:
  • If time, allow Andrew Sager time to share magazines if he brought them
  • If lots of extra time and no magazines, let kids cut out pics from food flier and paste onto food charts to build menus
  • Collect marbles
  • Read Cub Scout Promise as a group
  • End with Wolf Howl
  • Make sure everyone takes their newsletters - if any are left, just email me who left their (names are on upper-right) and I'll send an email copy to them
