Despite my love of junk food, I don't allow those in the house either. Occasionally they will talk me into a bag of fake cocoa puffs but my kids LOVE rice krispies. I wish they would eat healthier cereals since rice krispies are still kind of junky - no whole grains or brown rice and still some sugar but still better than the sugar-coated cereals. Another good one is frosted mini-wheats - they are not really that high in sugar and are packed with fiber. They are one of my favorites but those we never buy because they're expensive and mom will finish them off in two days. When I buy krispy kremes on occasion or when they get to have pop-tarts (usually when we are going on a trip) or end up eating junk food for breakfast, I don't mind much because to me it's the same as eating froot loops and I figure since they don't eat sugar cereal on a daily basis, they can occasionally handle junk. I personally think that nutri-grain bars and chewy granola bars are almost as bad as sugar-coated cereal - maybe worse since people tend to think they are "healthy." At least when you give your kids froot loops and cocoa krispies, you know you're giving them crap.
Now if I could just manage to get rid of all candy - every time I throw what we have away, they go to another party (like today) or a friend's parent gives them a bunch. Halloween's coming too - they're allowed to pretty much eat what they want on Trick-or-Treat nite but then I try to keep it up in a cabinet and dole it out for treats after that. But I admit they get way, way, WAY too much sugar!!!
