Reflection and Tribute by SweetKisez "Let's Roll!". As Todd Beamer on Flight 93 said these words, he was unaware that the same words were being used in hundreds of fire departments in New York, New Jersey and elsewhere as men and women rushed to answer the calls at the WTC, the Pentagon, a field in Pennsylvania, and from their souls. For thousands it would be the Last Alarm. This was the scene in the air and on the ground as millions watched while terror unfolded in our backyard. We grieved together, got frightened and angry together, and finally in the months that followed, together we have stuggled to make sense of this tragedy and begin healing. A woman I know, who is the wife of an elisted man, said it best with, "The fear is always there, but we just try to focus on our daily lives and try not to let the fear take over." As a country we have also changed. We have shown the world what it means to be an American. Patriotism is at an all time high, and as American's we have realized the horribly high price of our freedom. We are now truly One Nation Under God. photo courtesy of www.firehouse.com And on a more personal level, our communties have changed. The events on 9-11 brought us together, and in the year that has followed that solidarity has remained. We have shown more respect and concern for our fellow citizens. We have not let the lives on 9-11 be lost in vain. We have honored their memories by flying The Flag, the moments of silence that enevitably follow the mention that horrible date, and by being true Americans. The pain of this nation has made us stronger as a people. In my local fire departments I have noticed a new sense of pride, and this pride comes from the support of not only the citizens of this town but also of this country. The Emergency workers now, not only work for themselves and their communtiy, but also in the memory of their fallen brothers and sisters. We Will Not Forget. This is one American's view. I am proud to be an American and proud to be a daughter, grandaughter, sister and friend of Our nations heroes both present and past. Page by SweetKissez. Our Parenting Playground© |
