At what age should children be allowed to play outside alone?

well, this is a big debate for me because we of course now live in the Country and there is a BIG difference between the Country and City living.

i do not belive that living in the City children under 12 should be allowed outside by themselves, but hell now a days even teenagers are not safe alone.

the girls are usually never without atleast one of the other so its not really an issue here now.

Thank God we live in the country so there was never a time Jessica couldn't go outside to play alone under the watchfull eyes or alert ears of here mom of course so she was never really "alone" LOL  I feel so bad for townsfolk who can't let their kids out to play. I was raised in town and played by myself since I was old enough to walk but that was a different time. There were no strangers and if there was, they were looking out for the kids as well. I don't know what I would do today if I was a city dweller with children. It's a damn shame we have to be so careful now.

I grew up in a small town, and even though it has grown since I was a little girl, we live in a safe neighborhood. The kids can play outside alone, only they are normally with the other 5 or 6 kids in the neighborhood. I am not the only parent who looks out for the either. We all watch out for everyone. I have been known a time or 2 to also yell at them when they did wrong, sent kids home for not behaving, and have had mine sent home for the same reason. I guess we have that "village" thing going on here, lol.
