The Child Health Site was created in answer to the deeply troubling call to action that millions of children around the world suffer needlessly from preventable disease and injury simply because their families and communities are not wealthy enough to pay for prevention and treatment. According to the United Nations, over 10 million children die annually from preventable causes, and many millions more are severely injured The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., founded in 1991, is a nonprofit charitable foundation whose primary purpose is to provide continuing public education on the early detection of breast cancer and free to low-cost mammography screenings to individuals and organizations, most particularly, minorities, low-income, homeless, and working poor women. NBCF does not make grants for mammograms directly to individuals. They give grants directly through designated programs for homeless, battered, and low-income women in inner city neighborhoods. There are over 10 million animals abandoned and put to death every year. Many millions more are neglected or treated cruelly. Helping to find secure homes and food for these animals makes the world a better place, but this does not mean that you have to choose between animal welfare and human welfare. There is enough food on the earth to feed all of its inhabitants both human and animal, but it is poorly distributed. Feeding neglected animals and finding them homes does not take food away from starving people. The Rainforest Site (at http://www.therainforestsite.com) is an online activism site that gives Internet users the daily opportunity to quickly make a difference in the fight to save rainforests around the world. In less than 5 seconds, visitors to The Rainforest Site can click on the "Save Our Rainforests" button and, at no cost to them, save square feet of rainforest land. Rainforest preservation is paid for by The Rainforest Site's sponsors and carried out by our land trust partners: The Nature Conservancy, The World Parks Endowment, The Friends of Calakmul and The Rainforest Conservation Fund. The Literacy Site was founded to help promote literacy among children from low-income families nationwide. Partnering with First Book, the site makes books available to children around the country, giving many children their very first book. With the generous support of our sponsors, each click provides 1% of a book. Making books a part of a child's life is the best way to encourage the love of reading. The Hunger Site is the world's first online activism site. It gives Internet users the daily opportunity to quickly make a difference in the fight to end hunger. In less than 5 seconds, visitors can click on the "Give Free Food" button and, at no cost to them, send food to the hungry in countries like Bosnia, Lebanon, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Honduras, Mozambique, Eritrea and the United States - anywhere there's a need. To date, more than 150 million visitors have clicked to give more than 14,000 metric tons of food (almost 250 million cups of food) to the world's hungry. The staple food is paid for by The Hunger Site sponsors and distributed by America's Second Harvest and Mercy Corps. |
