FIX A LEAKY FAUCET
You will need:
2 adjustable spanners
Screwdriver
Adjustable wrenches
Washer(s)
Reseating tool
Cloth
Turn off the water supply
Put the plug in, so you don’t lose any small parts down the plug hole
Take off the top of the tap, you may need to unscrew this, if so use the wrench to unscrew the large headgear nut.
Tip: To unscrew the bell shaped cover of a conventional tap, pad the claws of a spanner with a cloth to avoid damage to the chrome.
Prise off the old washer from underneath the headgear nut, with a screwdriver.
Push the new washer into place, and screw the headgear back into place, be sure not to over tighten.
Replace the top of the tap and turn the water supply back on, be sure to go back an check for any drips or leaks.
If the tap is still dripping, the area underneath the washer may be worn or crusted with lime scale.
This can be cleaned with a special reseating tool which is available from any good plumber’s merchant or local DIY store.
Take the washer back out and twist the tool into the tap and twist to clean all of the metalwork.
Replace all parts as above.
