At least four other people, including a woman eight months pregnant, were taken to hospitals for observation or minor injuries, and the store in Valley Stream on Long Island closed for several hours before reopening. Nassau police said about 2,000 people were gathered outside the store doors at the mall about 20 miles east of Manhattan. The impatient crowd knocked the man to the ground as he opened the doors, leaving a metal portion of the frame crumpled like an accordion. Dozens of store employees trying to fight their way out to help the man were also getting trampled by the crowd, Fleming said. Witnesses said that even as the worker lay on the ground, shoppers streamed into the store, stepping over him. Kimberly Cribbs, who witnessed the stampede, said shoppers were acting like "savages." "When they were saying they had to leave, that an employee got killed, people were yelling 'I've been on line since yesterday morning,'" she said. So, in the case of the man with a brain tumor the size of an orange, he is to blame and he is to be punished? Well, perhaps you would feel comfortable bringing God to justice? You simply cannot accept that some unpleasant human behaviors are caused strictly by circumstances, SITUATIONS, over which the individual has no control. I dont know how we got here with this topic. It has nothing to do with the fact that these people pushed their way into a WalMart in a savage manner and people were hurt......they are to blame. They did not all have "tumors" that made them do it. Yes, occasionally...rarely, some people have behavior problems that they cant control. No, they should not be treated the same as the ordinary crimminal but they shouldnt be let go either. They should be locked away in the appropriate facility until they can be treated and determined without a doubt that they are not a threat to society. |

Opar. What an incredibly silly request! If I were to list my credentials and degrees, you would just accept that at face value!! This is the INTERNET!! Educate yourself! Google "group dynamics" and "mob psycholgy" and do an hour or two or three of reading and THEN get back to me. |

(# 236) Eppie, As studies have found over 40% of the "information" on the net is wrong - without identifying which 40%, I'll accept our roundabout admission of ignorance of your chosen subject-matter. The reason no psychiatrist can be charged with "failure to perform" is the same reason they lead all other proffessions in suicides. A good bartender willing to listen, a cat, or a dog can often accomplish more for a mental patient than those holding M.D.'s and PhDs. That information is pretty hard to avoid, and wasting one's life in such a manner is unendurable for some. As a former psychology major, I learned enough to stop wasting my time and have nothing I need "cured." Several who attended psychology classes with me are now working psychologists and (1) psychiatrist are still clinging to the biases they had in school, and still haven't found the answer to whatever personal problem that brought them to their profession. They only learned how to rationalize their opinions - NONE can guarantee any patient's cure or predict any patient's responses or outcomes in their normal environment! Yeah, Eppie, Google loves ya, but lies a lot. |

Eppie, I know enough of "group dynamics" to know that in this group you are not very dynamic. You go in circles to ascertain, that in the instance of the Walmart worker getting run down by a bunch of greedy people wanting to grab all of the merchandise first no matter what the consequences that might entail, that no one can be assigned blame. It is simply not so. It is the arrogance of the left in believing that every subject must be thoroughly analyzed, broken down into individual compartments, and sifted through a maze of obtuse statements to get to the facts of a matter, when the truth is most every subject can be simply stated to reveal the obvious. You would make a wonderful politician since your circular theories say very much while saying virtually nothing at all. |

Thinking requires no work at all, that's why liberals believe they are so good at it. Trouble is, while they're doing all of that "thinking", conservatives are working to pay taxes so all of you liberals can sit on your ass and whine and think about how best to spend our money. Funny how deficits are only "bad" when they come under a Republican administration. Funny how it is always forgotten that dems have been in charge of the money for the last two years while the economy has crashed. Funny how you find a way to blame republicans for everything that happens even while democrats control Congress. Must be those "group dynamics" which you so heartily tout that make everything conservative's fault. Or could it simply be that no one is too blame because it just happened due to the rush of the maddening crowd thinking of ways to become rich while stepping on the backs of others. The episode at Walmart is just a sign of things to come once Obama becomes president and has to fullfill his promises of being everything to everyone in the best liberal fashion. The liberals will be stepping on anyone and everyone to get their piece of the pie while the pie slowly disintegrates into a massive debt and the mighty US government goes bankrupt because anyone who had the money has taken it and run. |

Anyone who has TruTV may have seen the "big opening" of a new store in Australia: looked just like those Wildebeests forging a croc-infested river. Had anyone fallen there would have been another trampleing. Maybe I've always been so confortable around Aussies is because they're so much like we used to be in our better days (except for that cute accent). Republican? Dimocrat? Far too many put those meaningless "big tent" concepts above that of our nation. The sole purpose of each "Party" is to get their candidated elected - NOT benefit the nation. It's the complacent politicians picking winners and losers through tax codes and feel-good Regulations that have us in the mess we're in. It's the politicians that are printing money, setting the stage for some serious inflation as our dollars become worth less and less. That we keep putting the same self-interested fatherless sons in the same elective offices is nothing to brag about. |

Tax cuts did not create the deficits we are now seeing. Spending did and continues to. Both parties are to blame for the spending problem. And don't blame it on the wars, even at $10 billion per month that only totals $700 or so billion. The dem congress topped that in the last year with the bailout and their budget deficit. They plan on a trillion more unfunded debt as soon as BO's new package arrives. Tax revenues increased even with the Bush tax cuts simply because it puts more money in the people's pockets to spend as they will and some even have the sense to spend that money on investments which create more tax revenue for the government. One more little note, even with Clinton's supposed budget surplus for 2000 (with Republicans in charge of Congress), we still had a deficit. |
