Hi all,
it's been a while since putting in my 2 cents worth, with inflation who knows how much it's now, LOL. o.k. i have rsd in my upper extremities, it's painful and annoying as you all know.
my new problem is the result of a fall. just to the floor, tile, but i landed on my left arm from the elbow down to the fingers. the rest of the evening brought on the swelling. it continued to swell even with ice applied. by morning the area was twice the size of my right arm and hand. blisters started to form primarily water but a few were blood. i called  the MD's office and was told to go to the ER. i live in a southwest Chicago Suburb with a level 5 trauma center. after arriving at the hospital and explaining my condition, they said i had compartmentalization syndrome with aggravation added due to rsd's reduced blood flow in the arm.
i always have cold and discolored hands and arms, which i was told by more than a couple of doctors, was a common side effect of RSD/CRPS suffferers. so within 20 minutes there was a hand, ortho, vascular and infectious disease specialists. they wheeled me into the OR for 2 hours of slice and dice, lol. they opened the hand and forearm, grafted skin from my thigh to relieve the pressure from swelling. i need 2 more surgeries to close the hand and forearm once it returns to normal size.
HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OR EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM??????????? my arm is both numb on the outside, but burning inside the hand much more than before the injury. i am extremely scared and worried this will be another on going issue. i don't think i can deal with more pain, it will push me to the edge. IF ANYONE CAN OFFER SOME SOLACE OR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THIS TYPE OF INJURY, I WOULD REALLY, REALLY LIKE YOUR INPUT.
Thanks in advance for all your efforts, my thoughts and prayers are sent your way every day. now that im healing i'll write more often
