Hi - I have been a member of this group for a while, but don't usually post.  I have had RSD since 2003 and have been actively fighting the pain everyday.  I am a patient of Dr. Schwartzman's and will be going through the out-patient Ketamine procedure in Philadelphia, PA in a couple of months.  I work full-time as an accountant, specializing in taxation.  As you've probably figured, this is my busiest time of year.

I have been having a hard time the past couple of days.  I refuse to call in sick as I do not want my disease to ever be used against me at this job.  This is the longest I've held a job since being diagnosed; I have been here as a full-time employee for 18 months.  (WOOO HOOO!!!)

I guess I just need to vent a little bit, as I've been struggling to keep up with my co-workers during the past few weeks.  During tax season, we are required to work 6-7 days a week, for a minimum of 8 billable hours per day.  Add in 1 hour for lunch plus my 1 hour commute each way, and I am partaking in very long days (and weeks.)  The end of the tax season is in sight, but April 15th can't come soon enough for me this year.  However, I am proud of myself for making it this far as well as I have, considering my circumstances.

Well, I guess I'm just looking for companion ship from those in similar situations.  Thanks for letting me vent, and I hope you're all having a lesser-pain day.

Thanks,
Meri

Hi meri... I congratulate you on being able to keep working
through this terrible condition. I worked full time... 6-7 days/nights a week. Quality control for Toyota parts. The drive was 45minutes each way, and worked third shift... like you, I never called in sick, just kept pushing myself until the pain... (even taking lots of medication) over powered my ability to be on my feet and do my job. It has been almost a year since I had to stop working. I miss the work... but my condition just continues to spread. .. so unless God blesses me with a miracle... I will never join the workforce again. You hang in there as long as you can... only for you! Believe me... life w/RSD to say the least is sad... especially when you are alone and in pain.
I love all of you dearly, and the messages you have posted have been such a blessing for me. Thank you so much!

God bless all of us!

Meredith,

My son has an appointment with Dr. Schwartzman in April.  We have waited 14 months to see him because when we phoned his office at the beginning of 2007, this was the earliest appointment he had!  I would love to hear of your experineces with him.  We have to travel about 3 hours to see him and stay overnight in Philadelphia so I am not sure how we will manage the ketamine treatment even if my son is a good candidate.  Have you done or are you doing any other treatments with Dr. Schwartzman or is it only the ketamine?  Any information would be much appreciated.

Linda

Hi Meri,

We are so glad to here from you. A BIG HIGH FIVE TO YOU!!!  It takes a very strong person to keep going when you have as much pain as you do and during the busiest and most awful time of year. TAX SEASON!!! YUK!!!!!  Don't forget to take care of yoursesf when you get home. Eat right when at work and get a doctors note if you need more break times. I know I keep pushing the meditation thing but I have seen it work in my husband and has been a life saver when it gets really bad. It can help you get through this tax season's  agony. I hope when things slow down for you that we will see more posts from you. I am trying to get to know as many members as possible so keep me in mind when you have time and add me to your buddy list if you would like. [email protected]

Talk to you soon
Tami

Hey Linda,
Its nice to here from you again. How have things going for your family and your son? I am happy to here you finally have an appointment with Dr. Schwartzman. I have heard his treatments may be a possible sign for a cure here in the US and it seems to be helping those who have been getting it. My prayers are with your family and hope he is a good candidate for the program. Please keep us up to date with how it all goes. How is your son feeling about it all? I hope he isn't too scared. It is sooo much harder on children but they are amazingly addaptive and accepting of their lives. Please let him know that all of us are thinking about him and we are here if he ever wants to talk too. Do you have him involved in a group for kids yet? If not I have a few other sites I go to and they have support for children as well. We offer it here but I don't know how active it is and there may be more young ones to talk with on other sites. I think it is good to have several options to find support. If you are interested in them let me know and I can email them to you.

Please keep in touch with us
Tami

Tami,

My son is 27 years old but lives with us [I can't imagine how he could function on his own].  He is on some list serves but not on this one.  He is also in telephone contact with a couple or people who have RSD.  He is actually doing quite well now and we are not sure whether to continue what we are doing or try the ketamine which is about 3 hours away and requires multiple trips .  We will see whether Dr. Schwartzman thinks he is a good candidate for the treatment and then make a decision.
Linda
