First I just wanted to ask about Cymbalta. I'm not sure if I'm spelling that right or not...but I think you should be able to tell what I'm trying to spell. I went to the doctor on Friday. She wants to wait for the results from the GI specialist before she tries anything else for me, that way she can know if there is any damage to my esophogas from acid reflex and what other issues I might be having. After we get that sorted through eventually I will go to the rheumotologist to see about the loss of feeling and issues with my wrists. In the meantime she has finally decided to put me on some stronger meds that are actually for fibro/rsd kinds of pain. The one she is wanting me to try is called Cymbalta. At first my mom wanted to see about Lyrica but I told her people on here had a bad time with it and my doctor said that most people haven't been able to handle it. She said Cymbalta is a better choice for me she thinks. So I wanted to know a bit more about it...bad or good experiences with it, or major side affects I should consider before my mom consents to letting me take it. I go to the GI specialist tomorrow. I have many tests to get done so my mom thinks they'll probably put me under just so I'm not uncomfortable. So this is at least a step in the right direction for me. I feel absurd right now because I'm getting ready to go take my senior pictures...and let me tell you I'm not one to wear mascara and eyeliner very often. I have very very long eyelashes naturally, so put mascara on the and I'm telling you they seem so ridiculously long it isn't even funny. Also I stubbed my toe on the door in the bathroom...broke my nail clean off. So it feels awful. And my eyes are watering....which makes it hard to not rub my eyes but again...can't mess up the make up. On tuesday I think I'm getting some award at school. We are having the academic assembly, and my teacher told me to make sure I'm there and that I sit near the stage...and they called my parents to see if they can be there. So I'm anxious to see what's going on. I'll let you know as soon as I know anything. I have a terrible headache today. And I'm sleep deprived. I'm also emotionally drained. I can't tell you what happened, but I had a very terrible experience this weekend and my dad said things to me that no parent should ever say to a child. So yeah...I spent the last three days at peoples houses cuz I didn't feel like being home....and this is my first day at home since things happened. I'm tired and just blah...I want to sleep. For all those mothers out there...happy Mothers Day!!!!!!!!
                   Love,
                       Becca

Becca,  I feel for you.  It is good you have friends to go to when things are getting stressed at home.
I am on cymbalta.  It has been the first medicine that I had such a positive response from.  It has really cut the burning!  The doc started me low and slowly built up.  I had tried the lyrica and couldn't handle the side effects.   I have seen a few posts saying they liked the lyrica, I think it is very individual.  What do you do for your headaches?

Congrats on your award!  You are right, it must be something special, why make sure you and your parents are there?  I bet you look better than you think for your sr pictures.  My daughter had to have them taken all over because we couldn't  find one the photographer shot that we liked.  She decided it was how she looked.  Not so! We switched guys and couldn't find enought money to order all the ones we liked!
Make sure you have cover up for the sleep circles and try to enjoy what's left of your sr year.
Good luck with what ever meds you are put on!

Hey there, I have to say congrats to you as well on an award that you are winning at school. I guess you can use it in a good way to reflect on other people noticing you despite all your hardships and bullshit you've had to deal with thus far in your young life...

I wanted to reply because of cymbalta. I can tell you that I started taking lyrica and cymbalta together in Jan of 07. I first started out at 60mg cymbalta and started at a low doseage of lyrica too. I ended up for the next few months feeling the side effects of Lyrica. First lyrica made me dopey as heck, then it would keep me up at night and after about 6 months or so we came to the determination that I didn't believe it was helping me. I went from a max dosage of lyrica, to cold turkey stopping it, and I was absolutely fine!

So, lyrica had no effect on me whatsover other then to make me loopy or drowsy. Furthermore, this WAS NOT my experience with Cymbalta. I ended up being diagnosed with A.D.D. in sept. of 07' or so, and my doctor wanted to stop the cymbalta as I didn't know if it was working or not as I'd not stopped it ever to see the difference. He preferred that I get off cymbalta so I know the side effects of ridilin from cymbalta and all the other crap/narcotics etc that I was taking.

I ended up stopping it rather too quickly, as I didn't slowly get off of the cymbalta, and I got sick as heck, as soon as I got back on it, I was fine. So in conclusion, and my advice for you and my experiences can be summed up as this:

1. I definitely know when I don't take cymbalta during the day by noon or 2pm. I feel like crap when I don't have it. I know how much better I feel after taking it. I'm also on 120mg for a dosage too, which I believe is the max. If I were you, I'd give it a shot and at first sign of bad side effect, quit taking it. I know for a fact that it raises your blood pressure. I personally have issues with that right now, and I'm on 2 different medications and I still can't bring it down, but I don't know if that's cymbalta or untreated sleep apnea (I'm waiting for my sleep study results appointment.). But like I said it's been known to cause high blood pressure, and it's something that you'll be reliant upon. Meaning that if you get to a high dosage like myself, you'll be ill if you forget to take it, or have to get off of it and slowly don't ramp down your dosage to the point you get sick and go through the withdrawal of it. Other then that, I think it's a great drug because I know what it takes away when I do take it, but I don't like the idea that it gives me high blood pressure too...

Good luck with everything and please keep writing us on here. I'm not "AS" young as you, I'm 29 but I wrote you before, back when you were discouraged about school, life, and everything. I replied sharing my experiences with going to school that I have right now etc. What I'm saying is, what you are writing keeps me going in a way. It also lets me know that I have real and have pain and problems just like you. So hang in there, keep plugging away at everything and I hope my advice/experience helps you a little bit.... See ya! Take care of yourself and watch your toes dammit! I just rolled the hell out of my ankle while stepping outside my house the other day. I got one of those nice high ankle sprains that ends up hurting up through your knee... All I gotta say is I am too much MAN to be putting all of me on one rolled ankle!!! LOL..
Good Luck!
~Phil
