Hello Everyone!! Its been awhile but you know how it goes,doctors after doctors and etc. But everyone is always in my thoughts and prayers.Thought i'd see if anyone had time to chat to me. I'm shocked and in pain and my mind has been in question right now.I went to see a neurologist and he performed a nerve test with shocks which has my arm in a major flare up, major pain. My right arm is what has the rsd in it after 2 and a half years after a injury. well after the test was performed the doctor tells me the median nerve is damaged worse in the right arm than the left but he dignosed me with biliteral carpal tunnel syndrome. HOW? WHAT? WHY? Came to my mind. Ive been disabled for all this time. Did this happen from just the few things I could do,all this time. Im Confused!!! If anyone understands or has this problem,and feels like responding. I'd appriciate it . In the mean time ,I will be searching the internet for answers. MAY GOD BLESS US ALL AND OUR FAMILIES.     Tina

Hi tina,
I have read many stories and have come across a few involving carpel tunnel. First you might look up what carpal tunnel is exactly and what its characteristics are. It might trigger a memory of something that brought it on. You may have had it before the RSD set in and that accually caused the RSD or it may be a secondary effect from the RSD affecting your bones and muscles and nerves in your wrist. This could also be a miss diagnosis and it is acually the RSD not carpal tunnel. I know its another doctor but if they suggest surgery I would deffinately get another opinion first. I don't have RSD, my husband does but I have had problems with carpal tunnel and I had been going to a chiropractor for back and neck problems and when he saw I was protecting my wrist he asked me about it and then proceeded to do an adjustment on my wrist which scared me to death! I was very sceptical but I allowed it. The pain was gone immediately! I haven't had a problem with it since. It has been about 8 years. I am not telling you to do it but you might consider talking to a chiropractor about it. I know it might cause you more discomfort than it did me since you are also dealing with RSD pain. I hope there is something in this post that helps.
Good to see you posting again.

Hello Tina,
 My story sounds like like your but only turned around, I had a carpel tunnel surgery on my right hand with no problems in 94, then in 2000 my left hand was really bad (It was bad in 94 but it was later discovered when my records were completely gone thru that the Work Comp Dr in 94 lied about my test results to show in his written report that the left was OK so he could send me back to work...I lasted 6 more years...I was then 46 years old. So , in August of 2000 my left hand was operated on to release the median nerve entrapment....and it triggered RSD, with in a matter of weeks the RSD had spread to the right side as well. Again another Comp Dr lied about the sreiousness of my condition and it was 2 1/2 years before I went to a Neurologist out side of the comp system and was diagnosed and the Neuroligist looked at my previous tests,ran some more and finally I got a diagnosis and some treatment....a little too late to shut this crap off but at leats I wasnt suffering RSD with out any medical help. Reading everyones story we all are in the same boat, all of the stories are very similar.....I still confused too! Having RSD is like walking, you put one foot in front of the other and just keep going and avoid obsticals like stress.
Best to you;
Frank

Tami, Thank you very much for your reply!!  I went to rsd specialist Friday and my Questions were answered. My RSD is going haywire and just cause I have developed carpal tunnel, she says I protect my right arm and over use my left. So I damaged my median nerve on the other hand. Plus my xrays showed I have a bulging disc in my neck.I was thinking about all this and it seems like when people get this rsd, then as time comes what ever has happened to someone in the past,like car wrecks, broke there bones or whatever. Seems like the rsd causes those problems to aggravate things that has happened in the past.Mite sound strange but something to think about. There is one thing my specialist was smart about was she says we will never perform ANY surgeries for nothing if we can get by with that, at least she knows what shes talking about. Thank GOD I have found a doctor who knows how one feels and suffers with this terrible disease. And once again Thank you very much for responding.May God bless us all!!       Tina

dear tina,

dr. hoosang hooshmand has a great site that answers questions like this.  here is a link to this possible answer to your question.  actually i tried to copy and paste but it didn't work.  type in www.rsdrx.com/rsdpuz4.0/puz12.htm  or just go to his website by typing in dr. hoosang hooshmand.  his answers to questions are called "puzzles".  his website is full of very informative material on rsd.  unfortunately he is retired now but he was considered one of the top rsd experts in the world.

I had carpal tunnel from 93 to 95+, and in 95 the crps symptoms appeared.  My wrists were not too painful, and where this rsd, crps came from I will never know.  I guess the idea is to somehow quiet the carpal tunnel to quiet the big pain response to a minor injury.

Has your md  come up with anything to help you since June?  Did they decide on surgery or physical therapy, or splinting the wrist to rest it?  Did the carpal tunnel result occur because of how you might have adjusted your hand and arm when you were in pain?  I really hope you have answers and treatment that  help now.
