i went to my doctors yesterday. i had surgery on my left arm for carpal tunnel and had my ulnar nerve transposition done. after surgery i developed rsd. my right arm needs to get done same thing, the pain has been so great and the numbness throughout my whole hand and i am getting electrial shocks in my right arm. my doc gave me his cell number and wants my pain management doc to call him to discuss whether this is a good idea because of the rsd.
orginally when i first saw my doctor about my arms he said my arms will get worse until they go in there and release the pinched nerves now he wants to check whether he should do surgery because of the rsd whats the thing here. i told him i probably already have rsd in my right arm because i am getting a lot of sensitivity in it. i dont understand the point here can someone shed some light on this

Hi Sillysuzi,
I got RSD almost the same way you did, in 1994 I had a right hand carpal tunnel and had ulner traspositions on both elbos. By 1996 my elbos were screaming with pain but the right hand was ok. A few more years went by to the year 2000 in August, then my left hand had a carpal tunnel surgury and two weeks later the burning started in the middle of the night......no one knew for the next 2 1/2 years that I had RSD. Anyway, three months after the left hand was done and the burning had gotten balistic the Dr found that the left ulner nerve was entrapped in scar tissue from the 1994 surgury, this was in October of 2000.....so, the surgon attempted to repair the left ulner nerve, the result of that was the RSD spread to my entire left arm and also moved into the right arm and the left ulner nerve was completely destroyed. Of course my life as I knew it was gone in an instant.
If I had it to do again the first thing I would have done is to make sure that the surgon knew what he was doing....my surgon was a work comp Dr and he had never done an ulner transposition before...I was his first attempt and he botched it badly. You need a Neuro-surgon who has done many of these procedures. If it were me and knowing what I know now....once RSD has set in I would not have allowed any more surguries....al mine did was make things worse. Be careful, sounds like your Dr isnt being careful!
