Hey there kids, Having a parent with RSD is a hard thing to handle for kids. Even my son who is 15 is having a hard time dealing with my RSD as are my 18 year old and my 21 year old. Since many of the adults with RSD have children I have decided to set up a chat that I or Annie will monitor, this means that we will be there to make sure no bad grown ups come into the chat room to harm you. It is my feeling that kids need just as much support as the adults do. So I want you kids to use this chat time to talk to other kids dealing with the same problems. There will be an age limit set on the room so that you will feel comfortable chatting. Annie and I will only talk to you if you ask us a question directly. So this will remain a kids only chat unless you ask a question of the adults taking care of you. The day and time will be posted on the kids created calendar. So look there for that information. We are also going to try to do a family chat so that kids and parents can talk to other kids and parents. I hope we will see kids in the room very soon. Luv and Hugs to all Janine Manager |

Well, I'm pretty sure that i am the only kid/teen on here that actually has RSD. But I've helped a lot of people to understand RSD. Showing you kids my posts....and letting them talk to me might actually help them to understand RSD. If they hear it from the point of view of a seventeen year old, from the point of view of a teen that has had it since she was nine...it might actually make it seem more real. But I never see anyone post on here. I wish I knew more people my age who have rsd so that I wouldn't feel so isolated. |

hey rat I don't even know that many rsd kids isn;t overly common in teens younmg adults. When I got dx my cronic pain doc had only seen it in the typical age group and all theses years later it's just me I'm sure this is because the typical age group is 40ish and you and In are not even close. In all my years I have met one other camillla she around my age, age 22 she used to be a member here but now that she found my she dropped the group as she was only interested in her age group.I can give you her conact info if you like. You might find more likemind teens in cronic pain groups in general instead of specific ones like rsd only.Other sites like livejournal.com a basic diary site has an amazing group to which I belong and that majority of the people are under 25 and many still in highschool just something to think about as we don't want you to feel more isolated then nesscary take care hope school goes well today |

I don't agree with you totally that younger people don't contract RSD, as I got it as a result of a car accident which was 5 years ago, but my RSD came to life 3 years after the accident, which was only a year and a half ago. I'm 29 now, so I got it when I was 27 and a half. Though when I worked at target for a job while going to school right before the pain started, everyone took me for a 19-22 year old thanks to my baby face, So I don't consider myself a child or a kid anymore despite the fact I had to move home and regroup myself and change directions. I am a young adule in my humble opinion, and I do think that there probably isn't as many younger kids here, they are all over and out there! Don't take thnat for granted, :-)
Also, to the original subject, of making it "safe for the kids" so nobody "harms" them.... What the heck do you mean? How could anyone become harmed while ussing the internet? Is there a virus that makes your mouse electrocute you or something....maybe the plague comes out of your foppy drive or out of your monitor. I'm just joking....
In my opinion, I think kids need to be INFORMED and aware of whom they may be interatcting with ,and that not everyone has the same intentions online, but how can text on a screen "harm" a child if they are properly informed??? Will they somehow learn something they've either not already been heard or called at school? I don't get the way censorship works in this country anomore. When I was 11 years old and had the great opportunity to goto France and visit the Netherlands which was where my Father and Stepmother were at the time. I saw commercials for condoms with naked people on it, naked wheel of fortune, and my folks even walked me through the red light district at the late hours of the night after a casual dinner. I didn't quite understand how everything worked then, but they sure as heck didn't tell me it was wrong to look at the women, and it was a bad thing for me to experience. I think this made it easier for my relationship with my parents to talk with them, be more open with me in conversation, and be willing to answer any questoins I may have had at that young age. I think this was much better than scolding me for something that is totally natural and not something to be afraid of, or think is wrong....Just some thoughts. I don't mean to sound like I'm arguing, but it's just my idea on the internet and kids, and censorhip. Like I said for the most part its just text on the screen.......Take it as you wish.... Have a great day all!
