I have been wondering the same thing as you!  I told my boss, well it doesn't make a difference to me, because I keep track of every dollar I made, and I plan on reporting it all then at the end of the year!  But seriously thought I would have been on payroll by now........

Did the 1099 work last year for you?  I really need to be on the books! Thanks,,,,sorry I wasn't much help though.

Hi a 1099 at the end of the tax year tells you what you made for that year  without tips.. and no taxes taken out ...best to have an accountant .. he will send you  two voucher each quarter ... you would paid this voucher 4 times a year  to the IRS... and the State..by end of the year it should cover the amount of taxes owned on the money you made.. add 10% of yearly  total as your tip amount..deduct all your service charges  classes, education and supplies and you can deduct your accountants fee  charitys  and more   ... good idea to take out an Ira.. you can contribute up to 3,000 a year  which comes off the total amount you made that year .. so if you made 20,000 you pay taxes only on  17,000 ..good way to force you to save money  ... hope this helps..btw nj maybe all stats law says if your paid on a commission only basis ..  your boss can't make you stay the hours the salon is open your free to leave if you don't have a client.. if he or she pays you a salary and commission or just a salary  you must work the salon hours ...

I won't even get a 1099 form, I have been keeping track of my commissions and tips.......I don't mind paying my taxes at the end of the year, but I wish my employer would just put me on the books. It's like I don't even work there. :o(

Even though I work part-time, I may not even owe any taxes, I would still like a paper stating what I have earned.

I have asked many times, and get an answer of yes, soon you'll be put on the books, but it's been 2-3 months already.

I just finally hired two new girls and am learning the payroll game...  I do only pay commision no hourly...but they are still my empl. I have H&R Block run my payroll it only costs me 60$ a month paying weekly and 100$ for my quarterlies...Now because I do pay thier taxes they are my empl.and do have to work a fixed schedule..if you are paid commision and there are no payroll taxes done for you and you are basicly paid cash , you are considered an independent and they do not have the authority to tell you a work schedule..it is very tricky and if you don't know all the facts you can really get the shaft!!  I didn't know all of this on my first job out of school and go hosed!!!  Just make sure you do your homework because ultimatley you are the one responsible.
Hope this helps...

I am not wrong... it depends on the laws in your state...in Washington this is the way it works.  You should talk to someone in the work enforcement office to find out what the different discription for "independent contractor" and "employee" are in your state.  Again just trying to help don't appreciate the "Your wrong" Comment.Good luck!!! isp1231..What do you mean by saying  in your repsonds below ..Now because I do pay thier taxes they are my empl. and do have to work a fixed schedule? Here in New Jersey owners take out our taxes from our check and are responsible to pay there share  into the system ..We are thier employees..Is that how you pay?We still can come and go if paid  by commission only and it's by check form... Are you saying nothing comes out of there check? You pay all thier taxes ? There share and your share that goes  into the system as an owner? By the way if you pay empl..every 2 weeks you can save more money (less checks to pay for) as for the wrong commemt sorry ..
