Hey out there everyone!!

I am curious as to how some of you handle corrective color??? And what are your usual replys to clients that HAVE COLORED THEIR HAIR BLACK THEMSELVES..???

I just want to see if ne one handles it different than I already do... And if ya attempt it what do you think is the best safest way and what way will cause THE LEAST damage.. to the hair to attempt this..???
The salon I work in is a Redken salon... so . I hope you all suggest something I could use or try instead of something I may not be allowed to use... We carry other product lines.. but everything is focused around Redken and that is the majority of our chemicals we have in the salon.

I WANT UR VIEW OPINION AND PROFESSIONAL IMPUT???

Thanks... I can't wait to get some new info advice on this...

First, make sure that the black color wasn't the store bought kind, they might contain metalic dyes. They will never come out! I posted about a problem I was having once, it might give you a little insight before someone comes on who used Redkin...click here.

You also want to see how many times they've colored their hair black. Alway test strands, take a small section and try to lift it and if after ten minutes it hasn't moved then I wouldn't continue. I don't mean moved as in already gone but at least budged a little so that you can see that it is lifting a bit. Does Redken offer a color remover? Matrix has a color remover as well as Rusk, so maybe that could be one way to help rid the black if they do not want it extremely lighter.

I have done this to my hair on numerous occasions. I have managed to go opletely blonde within a matter of 4-6 weeks without killing my hair!!:) What has worked for me was to use a color remover several times and using (I know this may sound crazy) Metalex from Sally beauty supply. You can do this several times as well with 30 volume and heat for 15-30 min. It will condition the hair and help get out the majority of the color. Store bought or not.You should be able to get them to a nice light brown with a few highlights, increasing a few more foils every visit. I would never reccommend they go strictly to blonde from the start. Instead your consultation should let them know you can get them there over the course of a few months while saving the integrity of the hair. With the right products and our guidence anything is possilbe:)

P.S.....They have to be willing to leave the salon with all the products you reccommend and be dilligent about using them or DO NOT perform the service!!!

I've been ending up shying away from color corrections involving black. You have come up with a very sensible and reasonable solution. Thank you!

safest way is to foil (weave)or chunky depending on age or personality of client.. bleach..bring up to red gold or gold and tone with a 5 or 6 level dimi color makes black hair look brown.. in time you can make them lighter ..Drew
