I can't believe I've never had a grey color client before!
But my question is would I want to use 20 volume developer or 10 vol. for an all over color level 4 natural (on 50% grey) ?
I've heard conflicting reports about the difff. between the two when covering grey.
I'll most likely use the Grey'T Naturals by So color but not totally sure. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

She is a level 4 and your keeping her at level 4?
My first guess is to use the 20V because you still want to open up her cuticle to deposit the color.
I have a very resistant client, and I "pre-soften" her by first applying 30V peroxide on her roots for 10 minutes, and then I rinse it out before I apply her formula, which I use the Schwartkopf 6-00 (for grey coverage) with 6-87 or 6-7, with 20V peroxide and I add the grey drops to her formula too.
Important for covering gray, thin sections, and "dab" or make sure you apply plenty of color on the hair shaft, and not to wipe it, the color needs to sit on there to soak in. I process her longer, by timing 35 minutes, and 5-10 minutes under a warm dryer. Then allow to cool, and wash off warm water. (I think I have all the bases covered....)

I agree with the reasons behind using 20 Vol. Also, with a level 4 or lower, you shouldn't have any problem covering grey. |

With socolor on 50% or more grey hair always use I always use 20 vol. Actually I would use the 500 series. I do find using the processor definately helps it take better, but if using one, make sure you do it for 25 min. If not using a processor, I would let her sit for 45 minutes. Always works great for me. |

if her hair is fine, you can actually get a nice grey blending with an
opaque demi. Like wella color touch or Richesse.(loreal). if its thicker, and
she wants 100% coverage, 20 vol is the only way to go. I like to go a level
lighter around her hairline, to avoid a dark band. Also, add a cool tone to half
of your natural to avoid too much warmth.

always use 20 or higher to cover the grey..I tried to presoften one time and it was disasterous. never again. also leave the color on the full amount of time allowed with grey coverage. |

Well first of all I would recommend that you see what your color line says about grey coverage. I've found different brands sometimes expect you to use different developoers for grey coverage, however I have found that the majority call for 20 volume. |
