My Boss brings her 3 yr. old child to work. I'm not a big fan of children, I don't have any of my own, so it's hard for me not to get frustrated when she's going through the stuff at the salon and asking for this and that. My patience runs really thin. Today she was there for 6 hours. She cries and pee's her pants for her mother's attention. One time I was asked to 'entertain' her while my boss did her clients hair! ( I did not have a client at the time.) I just don't think it's professional that she brings her first off and second it's embarrassing to hear her yelling across the salon at her daughter. It doesn't happen everyday but atleast once or twice a week. Has anyone gone through this.. And how do you guys feel about this? I feel like there isn't much I can say being that it's just the boss and I that work together. Today was just one of those days I couldn't wait to get home. If anyone has handled this situation before please send some advice.. I'm pretty fed up!

Holy crap I just left a situation (by which i mean i was fired)  where the owner of the salon had a 21 year old that she yelled at. It is horrible. i dont care if they are babies or adults....leave the kids at home with proper supervision.

I agree, it's a hair salon not a daycare center! If she needs to bring her child to work, then she should hire a baby sitter not depend on you to watch her child. She is her responsibility. There was one hair salon where the owner had her whole FAMILY sitting around in there! Not very professional either to me.

OH WOW! it took me two days to get singed up, so I could comment!
I am new to this hair world, been out of school for one year, I 'm also older then most newbes.  I have tried five salons now, looking for one that would work for me, out of those five salons, four of them, had salon owners who would bring there kids to the salon. They would get in my tools play with them, leave a mess, ran around got in the way. At one salon the five year old was making water balloons and running with them in the salon! Crazy!! I love kids, have two, now 20 and 24 and sometimes I had to bring them with me (work related) but they knew the rules, act nice. These salon kids are the ones in charge.

I would lose my mind! Chances are if it disturbs the staff, it disturbs the clients. How's business? Have you noticed a decrease in clientel? Take note and write it down. If this has been happening for a few months now, it will definitely show up in the books. Take a look. If you notice that over....let's say....the last 3 months that business is down, let your employer know. Explain to her how you feel; tell her that your clients will quit coming if she continues to bring her child to work. If you lose your clients, she loses you. Hey, a slight exageration on the truth hasn't killed anyone.

I've already left LOL! It was just her and I working side by side and there were tons of things I didn't like about working there. I've been at my new place for a month and I love it. I make 3x's the money I did with her, and I get many more walk in's and less aggrivation with children! It was a hard deicsion but I'm happy not being a babysitter anymore.

That's great! I remember you were wanting to leave that salon. I told you that a leap of faith in that situation would be the best thing. I'm glad you're doing much better now.

Thanks guys! It's so nice to have this kind of support. I really enjoy my new job, I'm just not used to it. I've never been so busy with clients EVER! I work my butt of and get many rewards from it. This was a very good change of life for me.

Thanks again!

Jen
