I sware I want to quit the salon BUT I DON'T WANT TO MAKE ANOTHER MOVE.... The money is so tight right now... I am in a rock in a hard place...
I LOVE WHAT I DO WITH HAIR! But I have considering going back to Macy's Working @ the make up counter .. Being a licensed cosmetologist they pay about $11.75 a hour... I hated the job sort of cause I did not do makeovers like I do hair... But IT WAS GREAT MONEY! ? ??? What to do what to do?
DO I SACRIFICE HAPPINESS TO MAKE ENDS MEET?
Or Do I sacafrice surrving to be happy??

I HATE THIS!!!!!! IT SUCKS SO MUCH!
I WISH DOING HAIR WAS A HIGHER END JOB!

Aight well I guess THAT IT...
ANY IDEAS ? WOULD BE APPERCIATED!

I know you love Hair Cuttery, and you don't want to make another move, but you have to do what you have to do. I remember you told me you would try Smartstyle just once if all else failed. I agree that it sucks that you're not being compensated for doing what you love. I also agree with what Drew said about thoughts becoming things...so channel your thoughts positively. This change in circumstance where you work just might be a little push telling you it's time to move on, nothing lasts forever, and we sometimes have to roll with the changes, but it's not always a bad thing. You have nothing to lose right now to change salons again, see what happens, but think nothing but good thoughts.

Hi Mrs beauty expert, did anything get better yet??

Our salon has been slower than usual, this upcoming week hardly anyone has anything, and normally the book is full.......

I know the economy is hitting some people really hard......

I am thinking of handing out some comp cards hoping to bring in more new business.......

I know it's an old question, but I love to be refreshed, what are all the tricks to getting in more business?

In my opinion, I don't think you should head to Macy's just yet, unless you can do it part time outside of your salon hours to help make ends meet, but if your heart is in doing hair there must be a way to make it work....

are you allowed to raise your prices at all? Are there other salons you can work at? This business can make alot of money, hang in there!

Hello .. first last night was sooooooooooooo.. much fun ..i look forward to many more sunday night  chats.. as for my respond to your delma.. i still think one has to stop sending negative thoughts into the universe..stop supporting  a ression.. remeber money comes into your life  easly and  often say it ..every day... and thank your god .universe or whom ever u belive is your higher power .. thank them every day  .. we all have choices.. pick one ...chocolate or vanilla..lol  there are many high end salons one can work in.. doubling your intake.. i think you said you get $15.00 a cut.. make a move to a higher end salon or spa.. keep your clients you have at that price  and any new ones charge the salon price.  b sure to let your old clients know of the discount u r giving them  so any of thier family or friends that r new will pay more. malls r great  place to build a client base ..even nursing homes u can make great money there .. perms cuts color .. most places will be glad to have you there  and you get to keep most of the money..  working  sundays in a mall i  found that a plus.. great walk-ins..  ok go 4 it remember  it's much easier to ride a horse in the dierection it is going...lol Drew

I've only been in the business for 3 yrs. but in my area july is supposed to be  a slow month...  for some reason we are just slammin' busy. I work in a Smartstyle and have built a big clientel.. i know it's not a "high end salon" but i have gained lots of knowledge and lots of money. hopefully things will pick up for you.. keep thinking positve thought.. good luck and hang in there. Maybe give a  salon like this or in a mall a try.. never know.. i was pleasantly surprised.

You know what? I worked at Smartstyle and hated it in Kansas but Supercuts was fun and the tips were awsome.  I was going through the same thing at the salon right now!  What I have been doing to offset the cost of boothrent with it being slow is taking that time I am not working to advertise by flyers and canvasing the area around the shop in a 2 mile radius getting to know my potential future clients and chatting and offering suggesstions and how I could fix, enhance or change something in the salon with an appointment.  I would haggle a price and book them  and if they came in I would have a free sack for them  for coming ! In the sack I would have a shower cap,  manicure set, polish, gloss, glitter, etc.

Have a lemonade day! A nacho day! A salad day! Be creative to involve the neighborhood your servicing and appeal to their taste, and make them feel lke your working for them to look their BEST. That is what the canvasing is all about to take notice on who is in your AREA.

I have a bunch of ideas that can be used to arouse business in the area. Just ask!

These are great ideas for someone who owns their own salon, or who work for a very flexable employer. When you work for a corporation, there is nothing you can do except network with the area. Corporations have very strict rules and policies, which apply to every salon, and aren't open to ideas. I know that the original poster works for Hair Cuttery. It's not for lack of wanting to try harder, it's just that you're limited in these situations.
