I was going thru my e-mail from yahoo .. you know how you do " delete the boring" and open up the stuff you think might give you a laugh? and in the true traditional "Pennpal Christmas message" I reprint this . Christmas is not about toys and what you want for Christmas and remember ... there's always someone out there who has it worse than you do . God Bless you Dallen .. That's my Christmas message .
We continue to thank God for our "Miracle" child.
Dallen saw the plastic surgeon at Valley Children's early in the month of November at which time he said that he was healing nicely. He is to see him again in a year for further reconstructive surgery.
The Monday before Thanksgiving he went back to the retina specialist at UCLA that did his surgery at which time Dallen told him that he could see the bright light at certain points. The specialist is optimistic that his vision may eventually return. Dallen will return to see him in January.
Monday of this week he saw the neuorsurgeon at Valley Children's. She said that his recovery is amazing and that she no longer needs to see him.
This week he started a 12 week program at the Centre for Neuroskills in Bakersfield. After evaluation, the therapist feels that there are some areas of his brain that they can retrain thereby restoring some of his abilities. He has been having such a time with his schoolwork and homework, and we feel that he has been very fortunate to be referred to this program.
He will go back to Valley Children's to the Neuropsychologist on Dec.20th. He will work with Dallen for 2-4 hours to assess his current abilities/deficits. We are anxious to see how much he has improved since the last time he was cognitively evaluated which was while he was still in the hospital in rehab.
His school has hired two aides to watch over him and help him with his school work, so Lynn will be able to return to work. Before Dallen's accident, she had applied for a new position as an Academic Coach. She interviewed for the job about 3 weeks ago and was offered the position so after 16 years she will no longer be teaching. She will start to work Mon and is looking forward to the challenge of a new job. (I would think that she has just gone through enough challenges to last her a lifetime.) God has given this family an amazing amount of strength.
We continue to pray for further recovery for Dallen, all the while thanking God for how far this child has progressed in such a short period of time. We are so thankful for the Power of Prayer and everyone's love and support. I thank each and every one of you for all the love, support and prayers. I pray for you to have good health, peace, and happiness with love of family and friends.
Hugs,
Villa
