I just started on Neurontin, a couple days ago. My sleep is of better quality, but I am in much greater pain! I've dropped 3lbs,(5'2"-110) and am not supposed to be losing weight per Dr's concern! I thought painlevels were already at 9-10 but THIS is agony. Spasms and muscles jumping, electrical shocks throughout my body, falling even more than I was from hip and back pain and even for no apparent reason. Anyone know anything about this drug they say has an off-label use for nerve pain? I just wanted to stop taking so many narcotics, but there have been moments the last couple days I could swallow a whole bottle of vicodin, it hurt so bad. Even my sense of humor is cramped up! |

Hi, I took neurontin, my husband saw me have side effects while I was sleeping that were very disturbing. I was jerking in my sleep so much so that he got out of bed and slept on the floor. Also I had been studying for a test, and after a week on this medicine I was forgetting what I read, It all sounded foriegn to me like I had never read the materials I was studying. I stopped taking it after a few weeks, I couldnt lift my feet off the ground and was becoming dumber by the day. It at first seem like it was helping but then it just made everything worse. I have FMS and RLS and take mirapex. The only thing I had some relief with was water exercise 2 times a week and soma's. |

I took neurontin too it helped for about two weeks and then make me hurt more!!! I am so sorry you are in such a place I remember it well!!!! I am only now after 11 years of trying getting meds that help me. For the last 5 years it has been bad. For the last 3 years it has been horrible. Have you talked to your dr about stronger meds? Does he believe in stronger meds? I will wait to hear from you before I offer any more :) Mega hugs I do understand where you are. |

Hello Rettasgirl, I took neurontin about 4yrs ago. I went off it. It is for seasers (I cannot think how to spell this word). The neurontin messed with my brain. I could here all kinds of noises in my head, it got really scary. I told my doctor I was not taking it again. It also messes with your nerves. To me it sounds like it is doing the opposite of what it is suppose to do. Stop the pain. GenaMarie |

I am off the Neurontin now, and my mental faculties seem to have improved, if not my typing! I have a Dr's appt today, although it isn't with my primary, who is out of town, it's with the partner. SHE HAS GOT TO HELP ME -TODAY! I can't go on much longer, with any facade of sanity,, and be able to get my home back in order too, from the exterminators visit! To be in pain, and alone from adult company, is beyond lonely. I can understand how some would develop "voices", at least it would be an up close and personal distraction! As it is now, I use nearly all my energy hiding my real pain factor from my child, so as not to scare her. That means the pain gets my attention more! Shoot. I'd sure like to find the funny in this! Gonna go find me some "voices"! |

I took Neurontin for about two months and had to go off of it.Everything you desribed was happening to me PLUS I stayed so anxious/angry I couldn't stand myself (much less anyone else stand me). My doctor now keeps trying to get me to take it again but I have refused because I know what it did to me. It was not worth it for me. I do not know if they ever decided that Neurotin was the cause but after I was off of it for about a week, those symptoms got better. Good luck! brnot2b |

(Remember, with anything I say, that I was diagnosed with an atypical case of Fibro. I have NO tender points, but all of the other main symptoms.) I have been on Neurontin for...over 2 years. Can't remember exactly how long. :) For me, it is one of the only meds that helps my pain. I am currently at the maximum dose my doctor felt I should take: 3600mg per day. I take 1800mg in the morning and 1800mg at night. Without Neurontin, my pain is unbearable. I withdraw into myself and wish I was unconscious or something. I can't function right with the outside world. My doctor referred to this kind of pain as "phantom pain." The kind of pain amputees feel in their missing part. Narcotics can't touch that kind of pain. For me, Neurontin does. It brings the pain down to around 7ish where I can function. I can't say if I have side-effects from Neurontin, because I am on several meds. But I have never noticed any ill effects, other than withdrawal symtoms from missed doses. rettasgirl, your reaction to Neurontin sounds like the reaction I have had to two medications in the past. One was Oxytocin(not to be confused with Oxycontin). The other was Prednisone. Both seemed to undo or block the effects of my other meds so I was laid bare to all my pain and fatigue. Oxytocin nearly did me in! So...for me, Neurontin(generic is Gabapentin) is a life saver. And it is supposed to be one of the more side-effect-free meds out there. It is for me. I'm sorry it hasn't worked for others! Oh. There is a new Medication that is related to Neurontin, but it is supposed to be even better. It is called LYRICA. It is even safe to switch right over from Neurontin to Lyrica without tapering off or building up. And the pills are much smaller(yay!)! It is not working quite so well for me as the Neurontin, but I am going to have my doctor see if the dose can be raised higher. Just my 2 cents. Or more, I guess. SOS O_o |
