I recently switched from fentanyl patches to Morphine Sulphate tablets.

I think others here are taking morphine for pain. Can you tell me about doses you are on and any side effects you experience? Does it affect your sleep? Appetite/Weight? Cognition? Etc.?

Thanks for sharing!

So good to see you posting :) :) :) :) :)

I take those, they are my breakthrough meds.  I take 30mg at a time and can take up to 4 a day.  This is on top of the Kadian I take twice a day (but will soon be upped to three times a day) which is 60mg.  I haven't noticed any side affects other then lower pain levels and maybe a bit of tingling in my tongue when I reach the right amount.  If I go over then I get foggy.  I have found that for breakthough it works to take half a pill and then the other half in 15 min.  Not sure why this helps but it has for a long time now :)  I hope this helps :) :) :)

Ma I'm still confused at the difference between Kadian and Morphine. Web MD says:

Kadian Oral

<STYLE type=text/css>.hideFromJS {display:none;}</STYLE>
MORPHINE SUSTAINED ACTION CAPSULE - ORAL

Pronunciation: (MORE-feen)

Brand Name(s): Kadian

So it says that Kadian is just the brand name for morphine. I'm so confused!

Thanks, Mom. :) Oops. I mean:  O_o
I'm confused, too. It says Kadian is a brand name of extended-release morphine sulfate. Do you mean that you take that and then regular(not extended-release) morphine for breakthrough pain? I guess we need to not get the two different types confused, eh? To be clear, I am taking generic extended-release tablets. My DR just upped my dose to 3x30mg three times a day. For breakthrough pain, he prescribed Roxanol, which is a liquid form of morphine sulfate(not extended-release). It looks like maybe we both take the same basic thing: extended-release morphine for typical pain, with a non extended-release form of morphine for breakthrough pain? And you don't experience much in the way of side effects (other than the tongue tingle...haha)? It never affects your sleep?

Auntie Harmony!!!!
Of course I remember the praying mantis thing. Every time I see one, or their egg pouches, I think of you and Nick. (I'm so glad they caught JJH.) And then I saw advertisements for that movie, and I knew it was about the Nick thing. I miss chatting, too. That was right after I had to stop working, and I was so messed up trying med after med and having test after test and hoping and praying that someone would figure out what was wrong with me. Smiling Fibros came along at a time that I truly needed a support group. You were there from the beginning, but I actually knew you even before that...on Fibrohugs. At least I knew OF you on there. Anyway...sorry you are having more pain lately. And don't say your pain is not near what someone else's is! Until someone invents a way to truly measure pain, no one can accurately compare the pain of two individuals. (Personally, I think there are multiple ratios involved, but that's for another topic.)

Thanks for the input and kind words!

Kadian is slow timed release morphine and Morphine Sulf is fast released.  Kadian will last longer, morphine sulf is for breakthrough pains that come on suddenly.  Did that help any?  If not keep asking till I answer right :)

The tongue tingle is what happens right before you start having too much.  Hard to explain.  I sometimes take it till my tongue tingles because the pain is bad and I want as much as I can handle.  Sometimes the tongue tingle helps me know that I have gotten all the help I can get from the meds.  You also get the tongue tingle from Marinol.  I guess it is just the meds way of saying take any more and I will make you sleep :) :) :)

hiya evreyone... I took these pills... after 2 days I walked down the block with a machette in My hand going to have a "talk" with a young man who I feel has badly influanced My 18 yr.. ( telling my son that cause he is 18 he doesn't have to listen to anyone) ... normally I am not Agressive.. well ok not this agressive anyways... when I get any new med my 16 yr old son and I sit down and read the papers that the phyarmasy gives us here in Canada and he keeps a log of the side effects I have on that med... this practice has helped in me getting my medical mahauana liceenece...  of all the narcotics I have tryed.. pot has seems to help the most with the least amount of side effects .. NSAIDS.. aren't worth the powder to make them as far as I am concerned and anti sezure meds they like to give us... only block the brain and not the pain repectors either.. it is very frustrating trying to get and keep a med that works but as far as I feel that talking to our dr's helping he understand the effects the meds they give us helping them to pick new meds we want .. being informed by them and researching meds is aprt of accpeting this condition ...
