OK, lets say we are already flaring and between a 9 and 10 on the pain scale.  Then you are in a accident and break you arm, or any other body part.  Now since you are already a 9-10 does the pain go up further or do you not hurt any more?

Honey thinks it would add to it and would be a different kind of pain.

So there is the second part of my question, do different kinds of pain rate on their own scale?

Please post your feelings on this, I really would be interested.

Also I have been in a flare and then stumped my toe and it caused me great pain.

I think there are different types of pain. For myself, I KNOW there are.

I think they overlap. The level of one type of pain can determine how much you feel another type. Like with your toe. If it hurts enough, it will take your mind off the other pain. If it hurts a little, you will notice the other pain more and vice versa.

If pain seems to increase when a new pain is added, it could just be that we aren't as accustomed to dealing with that type of pain.

But take it a step further. If one pain can "cover up" another pain, what if something else can cover up the pain? Personally, I play video games and it can cover up the thoughts of pain.

Thank you :)

The things I used to do to distract me I can't do anymore cause of my hands but I will work on finding something :)

Have you ever noticed that when something different happens, the chronic problems recede until the new problem is better?

I hurt my knee in a car accident, and for awhile my fibro and arthritis problems weren't nearly as bad as usual.

So good to see you back _still :)

Yes I have been having really bad stomach trouble and it seems when it hurts the most my fibro pain is almost gone.  So what does that mean?  Are we on pain overload?

oh you hit my topic here.........   personally when i get a new pain that i don't associate with my fibro. ( whish as all we know are fewer that out dr's think)  i find it a nice distraction from my fibro pain.    yeah i know kinda wierd.....i also can "forget"
about my pain if i try and deal with other ppls problems.... ( most likely dues to my feelings of not being useful to the rest of socity)
now in dealig with sick and injured ppl for a little while here i have seen pain of many differing levels and sorces....and htis that there is a major differabce between acute pain  ( short term pain caused by an injury of somesort) and chronic pain... our new best friend....hehehehehe ok my new best friend......i feel the brain and body has the capability for us to forget pain for a short term period...........

my thought and feelings here....not any laws or profesional advice here sorry
