Here I am sharing with you a string from another Community on an issue I think is important. Names have been deleted to protect privacy. Personally, I feel this issue is important for the many women who will soon be making choices about future hormone replacement as well as the serious abuse that occures to God's creatures. I believe that God lives through all creation and what we do to other living things and each other we do to God. Also I believe the suffering of these creatures is reflected in the products we consume from them and we are thus adversly affected by these products physically, emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.

I have been reading a book Anything Can be Saved by Alice Walker. They are a symbol to us all that is graceful, fluid, and free. Our souls need them. To imprison pregnant mares in order to use their urine to make Premarin, an estrogen-replacement drug for menopausal women, is an outrage against nature and beauty that will inevitably be felt by the women to whom the drug is administered. We are not spiritually unconnected from the drugs we take, nor the pain and suffering that goes into their making. One's life cannot ultimately be improved because a mother mare must give up her child to a dog food company, while she herself must stand for seven months in a stall tooo small to turn around. Menopausal women of the world unite! There is always an alternative to cruelty. For there to be a future at all, grandmothers must show the way. Be strong in the face of transitions. Remember that the horse grows large and strong by eating plants. Menopausal women can get all the estrogen they need from the same source. The mares are forced to be pregnant most of their lives. Any offspring is taken away at birth. I hope this article makes you feel as I do. This cruelity to horses must be stoppped. Each one of us can make a difference, by saying no to our physician when they prescribe Premarin. Their are holistic herbs that we can take to get the same affect as Permarin. I am 57 years old, and have been through menopause, without the use of Premarin or any other drug. i believe that Nature has a way of providing us with what we need in Her plants, and if people would just search they would find that we do not, nor should we EVER, abuse or mistreat any Animal for the sake of medicine. What I read thoroughly discusted me and I will pray to the Great Spirit to help us enilighten society as to what is actually in thi so-call cure. The farmers knew there would be a camera crew so may have cleaned up there act a little. Still, I saw row apon row of mares tied in tight stalls. They are continuously artificially inseminated to keep them pregnant. They have an apparatus attached to collect their urine. Their water supply is rationed so the urine will be more concentrated. I am not sure about the quality of the food they receive. I doubt they are ever let outside to see the light of day or to get exercise. The camera crew noticed one mare was tethered with a rope that was too short to allow her to rest her head or to lay down and it was obvious she had been in this predicament for some time. It is possible they are not allowed to lay down as this would disturb the collection apparatus. These wonderful intelligent animals are forced to be living production machines for humanity. These animals that serve humanity, do they not deserve a life of quality while they serve. Where is the honour in this terrible psychological cruelty and physical abuse. Do we not have to answer for what we have done here? There are alternative drugs now and I am wondering how all the eons of generations of women survived before this drug was produced. (not sure of the medication differences from my country to yours)... anyway.. it is my understanding that HRT is primarily to decrease the likelihood of osteoporosis.. kept at bay naturally with oestrogen... oat straw mimics this in the body. (I could mention words like silica and calcium etc... but it's been awhile since i learned this, and would hate to act TOO knowledgable and put someone wrong thru misinformation lol) anyway... a lot of women i know who use alternative NATURAL therapies/remedies swear by this. check it out with your homeo/naturopath. 00000 From:0000000 | You might also contact the pharmasutical companies that make premarin. I shutter to think about the cruelty to animals. I shutter to think about the cruelty to children. I have been a social worker too long. There are "yams" that produce certain beneficial hormones. Thank you so much for post this about Premarin. I think I saw a program about it a long time ago but I had forgotten about it. It would be nice to be able to complain about this abuse to these beautiful animals who must live in such horrifing circumstances. This is a crime against all of us. Love and Light Gidget |
