Of course, this depends upon how one defines "AIDS," but the molecular-level phenomena that are generally agreed upon by all scientists do not require a "virus," for example, in "Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease," by Shils and Young, 7th edition, there are the following key passages:

…there are two prominent T-lymphocyte subsets: one
comprised of T helper/inducer cells (T4) and a second
subset of T suppressor/cytotoxic cells (T8). The
intravenous injection of antigen tends to favor the
development of T suppressor cells that are abundant in
the spleen. Page 597.

…secondary immune deficiencies are the consequence of
some other systemic disorder that indirectly causes a
defect in the response of the immune system. Page
598.

The major defects seen in severe PEM seem to involve
T-lymphocytes and the complement system. A marked
depletion of lymphocytes from the thymus and atrophy
of the gland occur. In addition, cells from the
T-lymphocyte regions of the spleen and lymph nodes are
depleted? These deficiencies may explain the high
susceptibility of severely malnourished patients to
gram negative bacterial sepsis?The B-lymphocytes
areas of he spleen and lymph nodes and the circulating
levels of B cells and immunoglobulins are relatively
normal? The overall consequences of all these
alterations in severe PEM are a greater predisposition
to infections and to severe complications in otherwise
less important infectious diseases. Pages 752-753.

And here's a report showing how stress causes changes characteristic of "AIDS:"

QUOTE: For the first time on record, scientists were able to show that a group of cells that are central to the human immune system known as regulatory T cells appear to increase sharply in number in response to mental stress. A regulatory T cell is a kind of white blood cell that controls the activity of a number of other types of immune cell. This increase was observed in both groups of students.

The study also showed that blood concentrations of a group of inflammation products called cytokines had changed and shifted against a pattern associated with allergic inflammation in the allergic students, but remained normal in the healthy students. UNQUOTE.

The first line in the post above should be "mental stress" rather than just "stress."

Another thing that can cause the kinds of changes seen in "HIV/AIDS" is sleep deprivation. For example:

"...the sleep-deprived rats had died from bacterial infections of the blood. Perhaps the most interesting part of these findings is that hte fatal bacteria were strains that rats came into contact with every day. These common microbes usually do not cause diease... What seems to have happened in the sleep-deprived rats is a complete crashing of their immune system."

Source: Stanley Coren's book, "Sleep Thieves," page 172 (New York, 1996).

Also from this same book and page: "The rabbits that showed the greatest amount of deep sleep in response to the indrouduction of the infectious material also turned out to be the animals most likely to survive."
