I am relatively new reading this forum and I am not sure if you have treated this issue before. In that case I ask for excuses.

What about soy meals, and soy drinks? Its alledged benefits are based on the health of chinese people, and their long life expectancy.

Moreover I read soy drinks labels and are mainly composed of PUFAs !!

Hans ... is there any contradiction here?

Soy drinks are now "in fashion" here in Spain, in what I supposed is one more habit exported from american society.

Finally, if soy, and particulary soy drinks are not beneficial, which is the alternative?

Thanks in advance.

I would simply avoid soy, except for things like soy sauce - in other words, soy that is naturally fermented, and only in small amounts, for flavor.

It can have estrogenic and anti-nutritive qualities, tastes awful, is not satisfying, and there are much better things that can be eaten, such as various dairy products. For example, I use ricotta cheese, coffee, a little cocoa powder, sugar, a touch of salt, etc., to make a dessert that can be made thick, like cannoli cream, or thin, more like a milk shake. You can also do this without the coffee to make a chocolate milk shake sort of thing. You can also just eat ice cream, but the problem with ice cream today is that it is often made with bean derivatives that upset my stomach (things like locust bean gum and carrageenan), and it is lower in protein content than ricotta cheese.

Have you looked at Bryer's?

I check this week and they have dropped eggs of the very short ingredient list. Tastes good and isn't too expensive.

I found that I put on weight in "all the wrong places" when I ate more than small amounts of ice cream. I was eating Breyer's natural vanilla. When they started putting some bean type of thing in there (taro?), I noticed that it upset my stomach, and that was the end of my ice cream days. I lost a few pounds and was glad I stopped. Still, it's probably a lot better than most of what people are eating these days.
