I need your help! I have decided to stop smoking, I have smoked since I was 19 and I'm 52 now. Do any of you have any tips for me? Today I feel very weak and dizzy and I read that is because of the nicotine withdrawal. I am determined to stop this time, my health demands that I do, but I need tips from any ex-smokers on what helped you kick the habit. My hubby is also quitting which will help alot, but if any of you have success stories please pass them along to help me. I smoked pretty heavily and this won't be easy but I have to do it. I want to be around to see my granddaughter grow up

Thanks Sassy and Sylvia!

The toothbrush thing sounds like a great idea, I am gonna try that one. I've already gotten used to not smoking as much as I did before my granddaughter was born, we do NOT smoke around her and if she goes out ot eat with us, it's always in a non-smoking place. I found out also that I can actually DRIVE without a cigarette thanks to her! I found out just how much having some orange juice and fruit every day can help, it helps regulate the drop in blood sugar due to nicotine withdrawal.

Oh, I've already considered the money we will save, the cigarettes we smoked were a cheaper brand, about $2.50 a pack, but seeing as how I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day and he was smoking 2, well that adds up! I've already decided to make alot of improvements to my home with the money, including repainting my ceilings to get rid of the ugly yellow color from the cigarettes!

Thanks to you all for the encouragement, it really helps more than you can imagine

Hey Smart, congratulations and "smart" move lol.

I am presently about twenty days short of one year since I smoked my last disgusting cigarette. Beleive me it is not an easy chore but one anyone can achieve if they put their mind to the test.

The withdrawal symptons generally last a couple of days. The mind game is what takes a tower of strength to overcome as in learning and adhering to new behavioural habits.

Should you happen to have one of them wee white things in your hand again take it and throw it to the ground, and stamp and crush it to smithereens, all the time saying "take that you rotten dirty killer".

I wish you all the luck in the world and have all the confidence that you will succeed.

Cheer
Frank

P,S. I am turning 67 and I cannot tell you how many attempts at quitting it took me to finally succeed.

My line is: "I am a smoker but I choose not to smoke today."

Thank you, Frank

I feel like I have gotten far enough along this time, that I might just do this! I've tried before, but always before now, broke down and bought "just one more pack" and of course, decided I just couldn't do it. This is the longest I've went without giving in, and I've went this far, it's now become a mission NOT to buy any more.

It's more help to me that you all can imagine, reading these posts of encouragement. That's one thing that's keeping me determined to beat this habit. Thanks to all of you

Thank you, Sylvia. I hate to admit, I've had a couple of weak moments with a couple of people I was with who smoke, and I smoked, too

But I haven't given up by any means, I've just decided I need to stay away from it until I am strong enough to "just say no"

Hey Smart, consider yourself reprimanded.

Get back on your pedestal and dump them ciggies.

Only YOU CAN STOP  yourself from smoking.

We are here to support YOU.

Cheers

Good luck with the stopping smoking Smart and Sassy, hubby is trying to quit too. He actually stopped for 2 years, then things got really stressful at work and he started up again.....I have never smoked myself  but watching him I know how difficult it is.  I agree with the others about changing your habits and keeping your hands busy.

You can do it....................Good Luck

I have to agree. "I am a smoker but I choose not to smoke today.", is a good line.
But I still think my favorite Insane line is:

I LIKE BBS!

OK this is August 14th and how are you doing?
I think about you quite often and wonder how it is going for you...........Hope you are still a former smoker and if you have had a relapse I wish you strength to get back at quitting..........
Hugs
Sylvia
