Clara Dee lives among her mom and dad
Grandma grazes one pasture away
She’s an outcast if she moves along
to make do she pours cups at the Palace Café
Paco’s broken hand sits on the sidelines
The other eats alone among tired eyed eggs
And toast and his non-binding guidelines
nobody beats the clock , everyone begs
To differ. A stooled woman nearby
eyes closed palms up and smiling it seems
at internal tales of the Rampage at Kmart
she’s a pretender in the parade of queens
“Paco’s the name?he offers to Clara
His mother’s no longer his barber she saw
His ears puffed up with pride of the fighter
he's settled for fighting time to a draw
A world of wonders a wonderful world
Clara refills his cup and straightens her cap
We’re here for the same reason she thought
Sees him, a dog, and her in his lap
"Jeez'" says some cranky old wino too loud
"Come smell this damn strawberry shortcake"
Clara blinks, says ' Paco there's egg on your chin"
and sighs, is it time yet for her coffee break?
