About 10 years ago, a young lady was suppose to meet me
in Bradenton for a short vacation. Anna Maria Beach to be
exact. We're not lovers or in any kind of a relationship, but
have been close for years.
I had already checked in and she called saying she couldn't make it.
Not much of an explanation and she seemed upset, but not towards me.
Having already rented the room, I decided to stay. During the night
I woke up with an uneasy feeling. Paced around the room for awhile
and then tried to call. It was after 3 in the morning and I had hesitated to
call that late, but was really starting to get alarmed.
My mind took a trip... following all the roads to her house..
(maybe you will understand that statement?)
It only took seconds and I was in her kitchen looking down on the table.
She had been typing and papers were spread all over. At first, I didn't
see her, then located her slumped over in a chair... the only thing holding her up
was her shoulder had wedged between the table and the chair.
A bracelet I had given her was caught on the tablecloth and
dangled near the floor.. The catch had broken.
I was so startled, it broke the connection... I called her number again. Still
no answer. I don't always trust these impressions. Hard to tell if they are real
or just my worst fears surfacing in my mind...
I called her mother and asked her to go check on her. Of course, it upset her
and I couldn't exactly explain why I wanted her to check on her daughter.
She tried calling also and couldn't get an answer.
Going to her daughter's she found her passed out in the kitchen.
She called an ambulance and they admitted her.
Turns out... she had been given the wrong medication at the pharmacy.
It had given her hallucinations and finally had induced a light coma.
I was in her hospital room the next day, when she woke up.
This is what she said: "I called you and you came. I saw your
face on the ceiling, but I couldn't move."
Then she laughed and said it was probably a hallucination.
After a few days, they released her and I took her home.
The kitchen was just as I'd seen it. Typewriter and papers
everywhere. Without looking or thinking about it, I reached down and untangled the bracelet. She was watching me and
asked how I knew it was there? I passed it off as seeing
it sparkle in the light... but had the strangest sensation I'd
made a mistake, letting her see me pick up the bracelet.
Felt a shiver go down my spine, being in that room. I was
uncomfortable and couldn't wait to get out of there.
Never told her I was there.
