Do you know why you said "No"? and would you recognize him, if you found him? Seems to me, the keeper of stories might appear in many different forms.
I don't know why, but this account reminds me of something that happened when I was writing A Space in Time.
I researched this for over 3 years. I kept notes and files, with never a clear idea of what I would do with the information. I said I was going to write a book, but saying and doing are 2 different things.
Then one day... I just started writing. I changed direction several times, but finally I was deep enough into the telling that I knew it had a beginning and an end.
A friend of mine was moving to my area. He had to give up his apartment, before his house here was ready to rent. He called and asked me to watch his rottweiler. He was a house dog, very well behaved and huge.
I was really on a roll with my writing and wanted to get at it. I usually don't let any of my pups go in my office, but I was a little apprehensive about leaving him in the house with my pit bull. Although they had been polite to each other, I didn't want to place either one of them in a situation.
It was raining buckets, so I put a leash on him and we went out to my office. He didn't shake after coming in out of the rain and I thought that was a little odd, but threw a blanket on the floor and he laid down on it.
I was deep into the writing and I heard a deep male voice say, "Are you satisfied with your postition?" I answered automatically that I was and then it sunk in that I'd heard a voice. I turned and looked at the dog. He was sitting up, watching me intently. Feeling a little foolish, I said, "Did you hear that?"
He turned his head toward the door and it was slightly ajar. It shouldn't have been. Now I'm thinking WTF? If anyone had opened the door. I would have heard it and the dog would have reacted. So where did the voice come from? And why was the door ajar?
Did the Keeper of Stories pay me a visit?
