This is just a little oddity I saw in the sky once. Not sure if it qualifies as a paranormal experience, but including it here to see if others have seen anything similiar.
One night I had friends over for a cook-out and a few drinks. There were 6 adults and a couple of young teenage boys and a teenage girl. Nine (9) of us in all. It was just after dark, in the summertime. (that would put the time somewhere between 9 and 9:30 pm eastern standard time)
The night has sounds, even when it is relatively quiet. The sound of an insect or the rustle of leaves in a breeze. Since I live in town, there are the added sounds of cars, an occassional train or siren, muffled laughter and conversation as people go on walks, a dog barking or cat howling. Just things you wouldn't necessarily notice, unless they weren't there.
You know how it feels when you are going up in altitude and your ears feel stopped up, that's what happened to the sound. I thought it was just me, until I noticed one of the women sticking her finger in her ear, trying to clear her hearing.
Somebody remarked on how quiet it was and the only sound I could hear was my friends' voices. There was a radio playing, but the volume was so low you couldn't hear it. It wouldn't turn louder and made a noise like a shortwave set, when you're searching for a channel. It was like we were in a bubble. Only the immediate sounds around us could be heard.
Then one of the guys glanced up and said, "What in the hell is that?"
I looked and saw a reddish colored cloud. It was moving fast, from east to west. The night was really dark by then, so I reached over and turned off the lights to get a better look. There was a glow about it. It was long and narrow, but as rapidly as it was moving, it only took about 2 or 3 minutes to pass over my house.
I've never seen anything like it before and if I had to describe it... I would say it was like millions of tiny red dots, because you could see thru them to the sky and darkness behind them. It was fairly low, maybe compared to a building 5 or 6 stories high.
One of the guys thought it was an emission from the phosphate mines, but it couldn't have been that, as it was coming from the wrong direction. Another thing that was odd is even though it was moving rapidly, there was no breeze to speak of and the clouds behind it didn't move more than usual.
After it passed and the sound was back to normal, conversation which had been lively and in the direction of a card game... now dwindled off and everybody was sleepy (including me.)
It happened about 10 years ago and I hadn't thought of it in a long time.
