Pilbara Magic

 

Travelling through majestic rolling gorges

spirit of Eagle joins us

Amidst the ever changing colours 

 deep rich reds and purple hues

The peaks tower

shadows playing

Ancient guardians of the land

watching us as we pass by

Spinifex covers the

 plains and gorges

of the Karijini

Welcomed by flowers 

 gold, blue, purple

and pinks

painting the vast expanses

of green and yellow

River gums line the water ways

of rivers and streams

that flow after big rains

Their branches white as chalk

with leaves olive green

glittering against

the arid red land and blue sky

The road like a snake

winds through the ravines

leading us into the heart

of this ancient land

Desert Storm

 

The sun rose and

there was a hush across the plains of the desert

not a breath of wind stirred on the horizon

The sun's heat beats down upon the scorched earth

and the small shrubs stand huddled and withdrawn

Out of the heavens there is a whisper

promising a breath

There is a premonition of something to come

there is a sudden rush of hot sticky air that sucks out

the last bit of moisture from the small desert bushes

the dust is caught in the movement of the air

rising to form a huge cloud swirling and making patterns

The wind storm rages and the sand strips bare all in its path

Then as suddenly as it came it is no more  and all becomes silent
