Hy, Dave, husband informs me I have a 54g external wireless card, the only difference between mine and the family's networked three other pc, well, lol, that and age. Because of the difference in price, he realises it's not the same thing, (as I didn't lol) but asks, "Does a Dongle stick work in conjunction with an external wireless card? Or does it have to be a built in one?" regards, Zy |

Hi Zyhda - USB dongles can be plugged in and out as required and unless the machine or it's operating system pre-date the plu and play facility they will effectively operate as intended with very little effort. Some may need a little more attention than others as the 'firmware' within the dongle may vary a bit...... Generally they will have a disc provided if they do need some help, but if you do use one then the external wireless card would become redundant. I think we had my son's system hooked up and running in about 5 minutes. Hope that helps a little! ATB Dave |

Thanks, Dave, if the Dongle replaces my external wireless card which cost about £50 .... then the Dongle must be dearer than the £10 you mentioned in the thread? Anyways, we are going to a massive pc place in Frejus tomorrow, and will make enquiries, but, lol, the only thing ...is all the technical jargon will be in french! We are ok with conversation...but psycho babble or 'cyber' babble literature still eludes us, lol, but will keep you informed, and thanks again, Zy |

Hmm - well I guess prices keep falling on all pc stuff here, but that would have been a price before VAT. I buy most things like that from a trade account, but even so they are often little cheaper than some retailers now. Good luck with the techno babble!
