Just celebrated the 1st anniversary for my transplant. A non related living donor who was the youngest of six children and a neighbor since 1972 offered his kidney and was a 5 antigen match. I did great with the surgery and he had a rough time. He had a extra artery which caused an unexpected open surgery. But all is well now and I feel great and the consider this my miracle from God. Life is Great here in Florida.

This year 2005, I will be 65. When I found out in 1986 that I had PKD I was convinced from the little snippets of info on PKD that I had read in thenewspaper, that I wouldn't live past 60. Now I know better and I'm expecting word on a transplant soon.

My kidney transplant

7am August 5 I received my kidney transplant via cadaver donor list. I had normal function within two days and everything is still going great. I'll remember this date forever as it totally changed my life! God bless my donor and family and the precious gift they gave me.

Liver Transplant
|
I have always felt somewhat like the proverbial "red-headed stepchild" on this site, although I have PKD. Most of the stories involve the kidneys. My disease, however, manifested itself mainly in my liver. Same disease, different organ. My kidneys are involved and function is diminishing, but my liver was a whopping 60 lbs, one of the largest ever removed. She now lives in the research lab at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. I received my transplant on 6/30/07 and am startled at how emotional the event is still, particularly the call that one was available. I grieve for the generous family and the terrible decisions with which they were faced on that tragic night one year ago. We are having very different anniversaries. So, this is dedicated to all those courageous families who turned their tragedies into lifegiving triumphs. Respect and comfort to them all, Linda Compton Atlanta, Ga
