I contacted FN Herstal-USA (FNH-USA) about the M240 GPMG threads and received this reply today. M240 Barrel thread pitch is English non-standard. The call out is (25/32) 0.7812-24 UNS-3A Special. So while the pitch is a standard 24 threads per inch, the diameter is non-standard. I hope this helps! |

I have never understood why, from the production stand point, why manufacturers (or government agencies) will specify non-standard threads. This applies to both inch-pattern and metric-pattern. Now, the trick will be to find this odd-ball special thread pitch in a tap or die. If you do, the price will probably take your breath away! LOL |

Me either... Thats why when I measured it, I was confused..... I will show you my project once its done.... I have someone doing the threads on a lathe (totally custom job) as I didnt think I would be able to buy a die when I measured it. |

Your Czech looks like quite an interesting composite. I like the G36-type stock. I've got a Russian PSO-8 on my Romy SAR-3 in .223. The Russian "universal"-type scope rail works very well and I can install/remove the scope without any change in zero. I like the PSO-8 because it has an illuminated reticle along with the SVD-type range finder. You might want to consider it for your Czech. The optics are good and clear, it has a sun shade that extends, and has a nice rubber eye piece that helps sighting. I've got a photo of it in Big Boy's Toys along with my FAL and other pieces. |

MG... this is what I plan on putting on her..... or For the 7.62x39 cartridge, I am not sure if an 8 power scope is of any more advantage or the 4 power is good enough. |

At the time I got my PSO-8, the outfit that had them also had PSO-4's. I liked the looks of the PSO-8 and the -4 looked kind of clunky. I went with the -8 because the price differential wasn't very much. The PSO-8 as some extra features that the -4 lacks, but both are good for the rifle. The -8 has a bigger objective and gathers light better under dim conditions than the -4. The illuminated reticle is a plus on both. You're quite right about the 7.62x39 not being a long range round though. (Chuckle: when some guys see that big PSO-8 on an AK they go, "what does it shoot?" When I tell them a .223, they just shake their heads.) I can just about guarantee the same reaction on your Czech with a PSO-8 mounted on it! |

If anyone is looking for a downloadable manual for the PSOP 8x42 scope, go to www.kalinkaoptics.com. The manual is for the scope designed for use on either SVD, Tiger, NDM-86, Siaga, VEPR, or AK-type rifles with the "universal" Russian mounting rail. The manual says that the reticle's minute of angle (MOA) measurements are designed to accomodate calibers 7.62x54R, 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 7.62x51 NATO (or .308 Winchester) and 5.56x45 NATO (or .223 Remington). The manual is in color and in .pdf format. |
