After a 29 year absence, Dillon Aero has put the famous Mini-gun, originally built by General Electric, back into production as the M134D.  The new version of the gun employs many enhancements over the original.

Dillon Aero is a subsidiary of the famous Dillon Precision, Inc., producers of advanced cartridge progressive reloading equipment.  Mike Dillon, a former commercial pilot and shooter and Mini-gun fancier, has taken his passion for flying and shooting seriously.

Be sure to check out www.dillonaero.com for specifications and information on the gun.   Also check out www.openfire.us for an interesting video of the new Dillon Mini-gun in action (this is a 6MB file and may be slow to load).

MG.....I have that video saved to my puter.....when I watch it I get warm all over and feel like a cigarette afterward.....!!!!!!

The 7.62 Miniguns are a mean bit of kit.....they have only just been withdrawn from service here when the Bushranger (Huey) Gunships retired late last year.

There is usually one at Knob Creek, awsome to say the least... and on Saturday night they have their big tracer shoot free for all at some partially filled drums of diesel fuel (I believe that is what is in them) excellent show, she produces a sound you will never forget

Mike Dillon has quite the collection... that boy has big time fun

The GAU-17 is a really neat piece.  I wish I had one with a 2-1/2 ton truck loaded with pallets of linked 7.62mm ammo boxes.  Each box contains three 750 round continuous linked belts.  I figure that it would take at least 20 minutes to reload the ammo can for each two minute's of fun.  My ideal rig would be a UH-1Y with a GAU-16 on one side and a GAU-17 on the other.
The GAU-16 is a AN/M2 aircraft gun on a recoil absorbing mount.  The GAU-17 is the Mini-gun setup with battery, motor controller, ammo boxes, and gun.

ABOVE:  A GAU-17 on USMC UH-1Y.        BELOW:  The GAU-17 setup on the Huey.

BELOW:  A GAU-16 front and rear showing tray, empty case disposal, and recoil absorbing cradle.

BELOW:  The GAU-16 field stripped.

Here's one from Knob Creek that should catch anyone's eye: a triple Mini-gun on a modified .50 M3 tripod.

You'd better have one heavy duty battery pack and a lot of linked ammo for this setup; the maximum combined cyclic rate is 18,000 rounds per minute!

What an adreneline rush that's gotta be.

General Electric also played around with a variation of the Mini in 5.56mm NATO called the "Micro-gun."  I believe they made one with 12 barrels and two feed systems that could fire at 12,000 rounds per minute.  Essentially, it was two guns in one with two barrels firing.  That must have been a light and sound experience.
