This photo gaken in the late 1980s at the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, near Poperinge, Belgium. After being evacuated from the battlefield to No.3 CCS in Rouen, France, Robert was given morphine, and placed into a ward. He died of his wounds the next day, and is buried here. This cemetery in the 2nd largest Commonwealth war graves in Europe, next to Tyne Cot cemetery. At the bottom of his grave marker is the inscription 'He gave his lives for others". Photo taken by Martin Barker. Martin and his wife Jo (of the UK), have been to our home in Sydney twice in 4 yrs. Martin is the Great Nephew of SGT Arthur Knight, VC, from Regina, Sask. SGT Knight won his VC in 1918. |
