This photo taken outside a pub in England in the pre D-Day times (spring 1944). Thats my Uncle George (South Alberta Horse, Canadian Army) on the left, and my Uncle Bob (Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps) on the right. George's CO, MAJ Currie, won the Victoria Cross after D-Day landings. George saw lots of action throughout Europe,(Armoured Corps) which haunted him to his death in 1985. Bob was a vehicle mechanic, and both brothers returned after the war to farm in Saskatchewan. Bob is still alive in Quill Lake. He enjoys the odd beer, and is known for his great sense of humour. He was born in 1918, and named after his Uncle Robert, who was killed at Passchendaele the year previous. |
