This photo was taken by one of my uncle's friends, somewhere in France just days after the D-day landings in Normandy. Thats my Uncle George on the far left. Can anyone identify the tank? We think its somekind of a Sherman, but the turret looks different from the back somehow. George lost three tanks during the war, and later stayed on with the Occupation Forces after the war ended. One night he picked up a hitch-hiker, a former German soldier. Somehow a struggle ensued in the vehicle. The German pulled out a 9mm P-38 pistol, and attempted to kill George. In the struggle, George managed to shoot and kill, the German with that P-38. |
