Earl's medals, had badge, and legion pins. Since they had no family, my mother and aunt sorted the estate out. Hidden away in a drawer were his medals, his Army paybook, some old German money, and a 7.65mm Bayard semi-automatic pistol. In a small brass 'trench-art' match box, made from a artillery casing, were some 7.65mm ball cartridges for the pistol. The Bayard pistol was a favourite of many Germans, and most likely was taken from a PoW, or a German KIA. I inherited his last pieces of his army service. I have the gun in storage back in Canada, and the rest here in Australia. |
