Forgot this thread was here!
Molly, my rescue baby, before and after! Some of you already know that her previous owners had half starved her due to her chomping on a hamster that she was locked in a room with! A dog warden intervened and had to carry her as she was too weak to walk. Heartbreaking! I had never seen Molly that thin because Mick and Terry, the folks at the rescue centre, had filled her out a little before she came here. Her look of despair has been replaced by a very contented as she suns herself on the window sill
Tipping the scales at 21.45 kilos, the top end weight for a husky bitch, she's in tip top condition. Now I'll have to watch she doesn't put on too much weight LOL!

How ironic that this thread should appear here today......................................I lost my best 4 legged friend this morning. My heart is extremely heavy and I mourn the passing of my precious "Barbell". My 28 year old Quarter Horse Gelding. Old you say...well perhaps in age but in mind we would think we were still a yearling able to do any and all things. Bar bell was born May 26, 1979, in Fairview PA. to proud parents Cozy Poco Bee (Dad) and Lady Steppenwolf (Mom). He was legally dubbed "Cozy Bar Keep". Some of his talents were one heck of a roping horse, A comedian, a loving compassionate friend, and one always up for an adventure. Barbell leaves behind a grieving family and a partner in crime "Ponderosa Joe" known in lower cirlcles as just plain "Joe"....who constantly calls out for his long time friend. Rest in peace my precious Barbell....you will be forever in my heart as you run those meadows in heaven. I miss you |

A few years back my daughter, Jessica, wanted a cat. So we went to the humane society and picked out a male ginger tabby, about 8 months old. Jessica, being a huge Star Trek fan, promptly named the striped cat Spot, after Data the Android's cat who looked the same. Spot hated Jessica. Spot hated everybody but me. He would lie on the floor in the middle of the doorway and refuse to move so you had to step over him, where he would promptly attack your ankle! Unprovoked he would run up and take a swipe at you, and run away. But for me, he would stand on his hind legs, front paws reaching up and beg to be picked up. When I did, he would put a paw on either side of my neck, nuzzle his face against my cheek, and gently squeeze with his paws, giving me a hug. I swear I knew that cat in a previous life for he would look into my eyes as if searching for recognition. When Spot was about 7 years old, he developed feline diabetes. Try as we might, we couldn't get his blood sugar regulated and finally had to put him down. I couldn't bear to part with him even in death, and so had him cremated individually and his ashes returned to me. I kept them in an urn for over a decade, but this weekend I finally spread his ashes in the hosta garden, his favorite place to hide and rest. It just didn't feel right to move him from the home he had so diligently protected from neighboring cats and dogs. |

Oh Robyn - that is such a moving story. I remember you telling me about Spot when I stayed with you last year - So I know what a place he held on your heart. Isn't it a measure of a person's humanity and innate goodness when they can love animals so much and know that in return all they will get is that creature's affection (if they are lucky). |

Well, it had to happen I suppose with Molly constantly being on the windowsill, day and night.
This is she having a battle with the venetian blind! My hand is there, calming her while my daughter struggles to get her phone camera set up otherwise Molly would have brought down the whole thing!!!

Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary ... Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.
They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.
The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am. Bastards.
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.
The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now... | | |
