The Tarot Suits
Wands are associated with growth, energy and persona; enterprise, and with new ideas and creativity. Their counterpart in the modern deck of playing cards is the suit of Clubs.
Cups symbolize love, happiness, and the emotions, and by extension are linked to fertility and beauty. In reflecting the dynamics of the psyche, Cups refer to the subconscious mind and natural instincts rather than to intellect or reason. Their modern-day equivalent is the suit of Hearts.
Swords represent aggression, force, ambition, struggle, and animosity. In the world of action, there can only be both positive and negative dynamics, and these differing dynamics emerge in the different cards of the Minor Arcana. Swords equate with Spades in the modern deck.
Pentacles are associated with property and financial interests. In some decks the Pentacles, or Disks, are shown as coins. The coins represent the fruits of labor in everyday life. Pentacles correspond to Diamonds in the modern deck
