Making Emoticons/Smileys Talk and Resizing Them
What? They talk?
Well no, not really, but you can make an icon (or picture) display a message if somebody pauses their mouse pointer over them.
Hover over the words MESSAGE BOARD on the left links for a second and you’ll see a little yellow message appear.
Hover over this heart here and see what happens.
These are ALT tags and are used to add extra information to a link or a graphic.
How to do it:
1. Type your whole message in the usual way.
2. Insert your emoticon/smiley wherever you want on your message.
3. Now look to the bottom of the window you’ve just been typing in.
You’ll see a checkbox and the words ?FONT color=#ffff00>Use HTML to create your page?
Click in that checkbox.
4. Your message now appears with all the HTML formatting commands visible.
Messy isn’t it?
5. Look for the HTML scripting for the emoticon/smiley. It’ll look like this:
IMG height=19 src="http://sc.communities.msn.com/img/emoticons/emlove.gif" width=19 and set between a pair of < > statement delimiters
6. After height=19, making sure you leave a space after height=19 and another before src=" ,type ALT=”hello?nbsp;
Note that the quotation marks are essential! 7. Do this for any other emoticons/smileys in the message that you want to attach an ALT tag to. You can also do this for other pictures embedded in the message.
8. Click on Send Message.
Don't try to be cunningly obscene. Filth will be deleted.
Resizing Smileys
The emoticons/smileys are all 19x19 pixel size as standard.
To make them bigger, change the height=19 and/or width=19 statements to whatever number takes your fancy. Just be aware, that the images begin to look rather flakey (and stupid) once you get beyond 90x90 pixels in size
