Pheonix Origin of the Constellation Phoenix was created by the Dutch navigators Pieter Dirkszoon Keyser and Frederick de Houtman, who charted the southern skies in 1595 - 1597. There is no classical mythology associated with this particular group of stars, although the concept of the phoenix is part of classical mythology. The Phoenix represents the mythical bird that expires in fire only to be reborn again from the ashes of its previous existence.
