Paul, I am hoping you can contact "Luke" (what I call him for now).  Last week, when I backed up my van, a dog was underneath it and began howling.  It was obvious he had a broken leg and was bleeding everywhere.  We scooped him up in a blanket and rushed to the vet.  He's still there.  We haven't found his owners (he was wearing a collar), but plan on keeping him ourselves and adding him to our already enhanced pet family.

The vet says he was shot by a high-powered rifle, that my van did not hit him.  The bullet shattered his right legbone, exited, and went through his back foot.  The vet is trying to save his leg but outcome is not for certain yet.

My question is this:  Out of the 200 homes in our neighborhood, how did "Luke" pick our house?  He must have come a long way because the only hunting area is way down below our subdivision.   I've never seen him before this happened.   Can you ask Luke where he came from?

Thanks Paul.
Pam

It's good to hear that he came here by instinct.  I've always believed that was my purpose in life to help animals, since I seem to always find myself in situations similar to this.  I have several pets with a handicap of some kind that were cast off by other people.  We will certainly do our best to give Luke a good home.

Pam,
I agree with mysticeye. Luke "knew" that he should come to you. He is trying to explain to me, but I'm just not understanding very well, except that he "knew". He was under that van for shelter and because he could get your attention by being there.
He is showing me a long ride in a truck, so I believe he is telling me that he came from someplace distant from your home. I don't believe the wound was an accident. I am getting the sense of "loss" and "fear". He was lost and some one shot him rather than try to catch him - they didn't want him around. If you could find his owner he would want him back, but I don't believe they are local or even that you are close to where he was originally lost.

He asks me to express his thanks for the care you are giving him.

Paul

Thank you Paul.  I am really glad to hear that he came from somewhere else not around here.  I've looked for signs and ads in the paper and even stopped at a few homes and asked people, but no one claims him.  I've quit looking for his original owner and knowing that I'm not close to where he was originally lost makes it even easier for me to stop looking.

He's got a home here with us now, and he's sleeping in my recliner right at this moment.  Thanks for confirming that it was not an "accident"....my vet felt the same thing.

Luke is a great dog and his life from now on will be different.  Thanks again, Paul!
