~Taping Spirits~

Most of us have heard of, or seen photos that we believe are spirits captured on film.  Well, did you know that besides being able to capture their energies on film, we can also capture them on audio tape/digitally?!!  Exciting, isn't it?

Most of us have caught pictures at some point in our lives, whether we've recognized it or not, with some sign of spirits in them.  Unfortunately, most of us bypass these pictures as having caught a "bad shot", "reflections" or been just plain bad photographers!  Not so.  While not all spots, bright smudges, hazes etc. are spirit photos and are indeed, just "glitches" in film, camera, camera straps, or fingers over the lenses, many of them are in fact spirits caught on film!

Just as we can catch spirits on film, we can also catch them on audio tape!  All that you need to do it is a tape recorder, time and a great deal of patience and concentration!

~How To~

First of all, you'll need a tape recorder.  Preferably, one with an "open microphone" (meaning, one that doesn't require a corded microphone).  A hand held model will work quite nicely as it can be taken anywhere with you and doesn't need to plug in.

Secondly, you'll need a set of good headphones, preferably, "earbuds" or ones that fit in your ears as opposed to the headband type.  The "earbuds" fitting so closely into your ear during playback allow you to pick up sounds that might be drowned out with other types of headphones.

Lastly, you'll need a fresh supply of rather good quality tapes.  The poorer quality often leave a lot to be desired in what they pick up and often have quite a heavy background noise which also drowns out a spirit's voice.  Remember, spirits have no voice boxes, so what they get through to us comes through raspy whispers.

That's it.  Besides time and patience...that's all that's required.

It doesn't really matter where you are to get a taping, however, visiting a place that was near and dear to your loved one's heart is probably the most highly likely place to get a recording.  If you have no loved ones that you'd like to tape, try going to a cemetary, national memorial area/park, or anywhere that you know of that might have a connection with those that have passed over.

While one can do it alone, it is more likely to be successful if you have someone else with you.  I have no idea why it works better, just that it does.

Now, all that you need to do is to turn the recorder on and wait.  Carry on about your business, being careful not to carry on too much of a conversation so that you won't be able to hear any messages that might come through.  Give breaks inbetween talking so that they can talk back.  Just as we, here don't like it when we can't get a word in edgewise because someone's constantly talking...it irks them too!  They may be on the other side, but they still like to be able to talk and be heard! Make sure that there are no televisions/radios on at the time to confuse you and keep track of what you and the other person were doing during the recording so that you also don't confuse your own noises, sniffles, coughs, words etc., with it possibly being a spirit voice when it's not.  That only becomes disappointing later.

When you're done recording and have some really quiet time to yourself, turn off all other noise makers, place your headphones on and turn the volume to a comfortable level for you.  While you may need to turn the volume up on a replay to decipher what they're saying, you don't want to go deaf in the process.

In order to know what it is that you've gotten, you have to really train your ear to hear the subtle sounds in between your voices and the "static" that you'll hear.  Spirit voices often appear somewhere in between these two levels of recording.  In other words, they'll be less pronounced and clear than your voice, but more defined and will stand out more than the "static" background that tapes pick up.  (While I haven't experimented with digital recorders, some say that they are more precise and less prone to background noise.  I really couldn't tell you)

What you will most likely hear on first try at listening will be simply all background noise.  This is where your trained ear will have to be developed.  You'll soon begin to notice little differences in the sound of the background sounds which indicate that you should have your finger on the rewind button!  Keep your "counter" on the recorder set properly and rewind the tape back to that number.  Rewind it as many times as you need, adjusting the volume to hear more clearly.  You may need to replay that one word/phrase dozens of times before you'll understand and recognize that you do have a voice recorded and what it is that they are saying.

More often than not...the spirit voices will be simply whispery like, raspy sounds.  They can only make those sounds as I've said above because they no longer have voice boxes to produce voices like ours.  So pay close attention to these "whispery" type sounds.  They are the voices!

Again, you have to have LOTS of patience and you won't get something every time that you tape!  Remember that!  It's not that it's not working for you if you don't get anything.  It may simply be that there's no spirits around at that time to record, or that you simply have not learned to recognize them yet.  It all takes trial, patience and learning to recognize them when you hear them.  They're there!  Trust me!
