Well, I know this is late by 2 months, but better late than never.  I believe that shoes represent our path or a path we are on, were on, or is before us. 

 

For instance, if your shoes are too big in your dream, perhaps in life you are in a new job.  You may think or hear that the person before you has "big shoes to fill".  If you are changing your shoes, perhaps you are changing your role in your life?  If you forget your shoes, perhaps you are leaving a certain path behind you and moving towards a different one.  If your shoes are new, perhaps the quest before you is one you have never encountered before, and if they are worn or old shoes, the journey you are on is a lot of work.  If your shoes in your dream do not fit the scene (wearing toe ballet slippers to the supermarket), perhaps the path you are on or heading towards is an inappropriate one or one that you really need to prepare better for.
